Very Happy with Restylane for the Volume It Has Given Me Under my Eyes - New York, NY
I've been researching restylane for about a year...

I've been researching restylane for about a year and went to plenty of consultations before finally getting it done earlier this month. My dark circles really bothered me not just because of the pigmentation alone but the lack of volume underneath the eye -- what is known as the tear trough indentation.
I started wearing makeup for that reason alone to hide the "tired eyes" appearance but no amount of concealer -- no matter how high end -- could take care of the indentation because it was a problem with lack of volume and not just color. You can't color correct a dent.
My mom suggested that I research fillers because she knew how much this bothered me and that I wore glasses for the very reason to conceal them -- also, she doesn't have this problem but some folks from my dad's side do so I am guessing this is where I inherited it (genetically).
At any rate, I went for consultations and was never satisfied primarily because the med spas and offices I went to seemed to approach fillers very generally and I didn't want someone to poke around under my eyes if they didn't know what they were doing. A lot of the offices also used restylane for every other area but dark circles - I understand it's use is off-label for under the eyes but I wasn't comfortable with someone experimenting on me in the one area on my face where the skin is 1)the thinnest and 2) the most fragile and near my eyes of all places!! (as a future physician, I did my research and basically got freaked out by any potential side effects)
What guided me most of all was this site -- it really helped me find providers/injectable deals and that's how I went about getting consultations.
I have to say that the most important thing is that you make sure your physician has experience doing tear trough injections because it determines the outcome a lot: it speaks on their injecting skills through experience, their familiarity with the area, the placement of the restylane gel which also determines how it'll sit on your face/under your eyes.
My first consultation with Dr. Krant, she addressed every single question I had and I had plenty. She also stressed the importance of not calling it a 'tear trough deformity' the way I did walking into her office bc it's pretty common and it isn't a deformity by definition. I can't tell you how easy it is to speak to her and how much I respect her whole approach as a patient because it's really rare to find a doctor that is honest and isn't trying to upsell you things. She even told me at the consultation that she doesn't think I really need it but that she was willing to do half a syringe on the inner corners as to give a very NATURAL and subtle difference. And let me just say: that is EXACTLY what I was looking for! My sister came with me to the consultation and she was visiting from overseas and noticed the same thing and said "wow she's a really honest doctor"
About two weeks after the consultation, I booked the appointment and got it done. The procedure was painless as they put numbing cream under the eyes so you dont feel anything. You only get a bizarre sensation as the gel is injected and as she smooths it out in your under eye area. The majority of the injection was done near the inner corner because when that is lifted, it lifts the beginning of the dark circle and is kind of a light trick. It makes a ton of difference when you put make up on it.
I went back to Dr. Krant this week for a followup appointment and I am absolutely ecstatic with my results! I am now wearing contacts and even my mom has noticed how much this means to me because I have big eyes and have always hid them under glasses especially in college when the studying made the dark circles even worst.
Finally, I just have to say that I'm def glad that I found Dr. Krant through realself: she's an amazing professional and honest dermatologist and I respect her so much as a future physician myself. Specifically, if you also have dark circles and want to address the volume aspect, she is experienced with this so I totally recommend her. I'm planning on going back depending on the longevity of the product -- we'll see how it settles but I'm just stoked for now because it's such a subtle injection but makes a huge difference to me and even my mom has noticed that I was BEAMING with how it turned out.
If you guys have any questions, let me know! :)
Chose Dr. K through Realself.
