I did it!

So this morning when I woke up I had a splitting headache and my anxiety was super high.. I arrived at the surgery center, checked in, met with my doctor and the nurses who were all so friendly and that made me relax and feel so much more comfy. At 10:30 I was escorted to a room and they administered a "cocktail" via IV. It was awesome. It took the edge off completely and made me so smiley. I was then wheeled to the OR and I transferred myself to the operating table. They then put a mask on me while telling me jokes and being playful and the next thing I know I was waking up in the recovery room. Let me just tell you... I was sooo nervous about the whole anesthesia process because I've never been under before and I was worried it may not work on properly and I would wake up in middle of the surgery (which is a crazy thought,) and I was worried about how I would feel waking up. When I woke up, at 12pm I felt like I had taken a deep nap. I felt a lot of pressure and tightness on my chest but not a lot of pain. After I ate a few crackers and ginger ale they gave me a Percocet, waited till I was feeling good enough to stand, and then helped me to my dressing room where I changed into my clothes and left to go home. I was in my car by 1:30! Home by 2. I'm lying in bed now catching up on work emails because I'm not tired.. the anesthesia put me in a good nap:) here's to hoping tonight will go smooth!

6 more days!
I'm super excited but also so anxious about the actual surgery and the days following. I've been following many stories on RS and everyone has a different experience. Some say the pain is unbearable and they're stuck in bed for days, and some say they are making dinner for their families the next day. Can anyone offer some insight? What does the pain level correspond with? And also, is it painful to wake up from anesthesia?

Hello, I am one week post-op, and while I'm sure everyone is a little different and things like before/after size, surgeon, methods, pain tolerance affect folks differently, I can tell you that the pain for me has never been awful. I had my surgery last Monday at 7:30am and by early afternoon I took a short (and slow) stroll in my neighborhood, and haven't needed anything more than over the counter pain relief. The first couple of days my pecs were pretty sore, but that went away fairly quickly for me and I have my range of motion back. I would say that I hope you have help with your two boys as I only have one (he's almost 6) and wouldn't be able to keep up with him without the help of my husband.
The pain is not awful, but it's uncomfortable and takes some getting used to. Assuming you gave birth to your children, you can totally do this. I'm one week out and feel much better; just waiting for the feeling to come back to my breasts and for the incisions to heal (the incisions, for me, have been the least painful part).
Good luck!

Wow thank you for this! It made me feel better. Yes I gave birth to both my children naturally so I'm hoping that has tested my chain threshold to the max. My boys are 7 and 3 and both in school till 4pm and after I'll have my husband home and helping. I know I'll be ok. It's just fear of the unkown and how I'll react to the whole change and if my body will be able to handle the pain...

Waking up from anesthesia is not painful, but you may have shivers which could make things uncomfortable. I'm sure you'll be drugged up with pain meds when you wake up though so I'm sure you'll be just fine! Good luck!

It's done! It was a breeze... I was worried for nothing. The anesthesiology team was amazing and next think I knew I was waking up from what felt like a deep nap. Thanks for your comment!
