I never really was someone who desired plastic surgery. I had horrible cystic acne as a teenager, which left me with deep acne scars that I was content living with for the rest of my life. I heard about Dr. Velargo through a family member and saw him over a year ago to talk about my eyelids -- I kept seeing something in my peripheral vision, and it was my eyelids! I looked perpetually sad and had trouble putting my makeup on. So, I told Dr. Velargo that I wanted to try something non-surgical at first. We went the Botox route, but, as he warned me, it didn't give me the results I was hoping for.
I finally decided to have eyelid surgery after Dr. Velargo went over what would be involved in detail. Then, I did something very courageous for me -- I asked him what else could make me look younger and improve my skin. I dreaded what he would tell me, but he was very honest and kind with his response. I left the office that day knowing I would be in good hands and would be calling the next day to book all of the procedures he recommended. I was going all in -- face and neck lift, neck and jaw liposuction, brow lift, upper eye job, lower eye job, and resurfacing on my skin to improve the acne scars.
I wasn't worried about much before my surgery except how bad my skin would look afterwards. Dr. Velargo told me that I would look like he "drug me through the parking lot". I kind of laughed it off, but he ended up being right! I was prepared though because he kept telling me that "dramatic results require dramatic healing".
The night of the surgery, I wasn't in pain, and he had a black helmet on my head, which was a little tight, but I understand it was necessary. I didn't have any drains, which was a blessing, because some of the other doctors I met with told me they would put them in.
The morning after surgery was a shock to my sister, who took care of me, but I wasn't uncomfortable. My eyes were swollen shut because of the combination of the chemical peel I had and my eyelid surgery. I say it was a shock to my sister because of how swollen I was and how "raw" my skin looked. After the helmet came off, my sister took a picture from the side. When I saw it, I was in love with my neck already.
The next week was a cake walk in terms of taking care of my face lift and eye lid surgery, but my skin was raw and crusty from the resurfacing. I was warned, but seeing it on yourself is a different story! The worst part of this period of healing was the itchiness! But, the percogesic medication he recommended (over the counter!) was AMAZING! I also used some ice packs he gave me to help with the swelling. It was a little gross to put saran wrap (YES, saran wrap!) on my face to help the skin heal and protect it from the ice packs, but it worked.
My stitches and staples came out at 7 days on schedule and my facelift/ eyelids were healing on track.
After about 10 days, my skin was basically all finished re-growing. It was still dry though. And red/ pink! Anything would set it off too! Perfumes and air fresheners especially. Dr. Velargo warned me about this, but I had to try it out for myself :)! I went into Michaels, and I had a rapid retreat!!!
At two weeks, I was very still pretty pink, but much better overall. I would say it took a few months before all my pink went away, but I could camouflage things pretty well with some mineral based makeup after a few weeks. But, I would trade those wrinkles and acne scars for a few pink spots any day!!!
Well, here I am 7 months later and I am so happy with my results! I look back at pictures of myself while healing and cannot believe that I had no real pain.
I teared up when he showed me these before and after pictures. I am still in awe! Wow!!!
I am happy to talk with anyone about my experience by email.
