Taking these suckers out!!
Four years ago, I decided to get breast implants. It was an idea that I had been tossing around since high school, and after having children, I decided to go for it. I had 457cc silicone, under the muscle with an areolar incision.
They healed alright, and for a while I was happy with them.
Until I wasn't.
I started having neck/shoulder/back pain ALL the time. My posture used to be SO good (seriously, random people would compliment me on it) and now I'm always slouching. Standing and sitting up straight require effort. The implant in my right breast, which was always bigger, seems to have moved out of the pocket a little bit underneath. Clothes don't fit right. Exercise sucks because they're so big and heavy, so I never exercise, and as a result I'm about 20lbs overweight.
So about a year and a half ago, I decided I wanted to remove the implants and not replace them.
I went on about 7 consultations before I found a doctor I liked (a lot of them had the mindset of 'there's no serious complications, just leave them!' or 'let's replace them with something smaller' which is not what I was interested in at all).
Yesterday I paid for the procedure, and today I went and had my bloodwork done. All that is left is to get a physical/medical risk assessment from a doctor, and to wait.
March 17th is the big day, and I'M ECSTATIC!! I cannot wait to wear clothes that fit me again, to not have constant pain, to have people look at my face when they first meet me instead of my chest, to be able to give good hugs again... to just be back to normal and be plastic free!!!

Good day! I like your tune...hey hey hey, goodbye :). I'm glad to hear that you located a Dr. that has your best interest at heart! You did great!! I had a routine mammogram about a month ago, and as a result, one of my breasts is smaller than the other one, and the smaller breast now has a lumpiness feeling to it. Bummer, so I've decided it's time to get them removed ASAP. My guess, its going to take up yo four weeks to get them removed, so we may be going through the explant surgery around the same time! Please keep us updated, and so glad that you're proactive and have decided to do what it takes to preserve your health for you and your children!! You're worth it :) Take care God bless and with with PRAYERS

You sound so excited that I am excited for you! I think having implants sounds really hard in so many ways (no pun intended) and I'm glad you have the opportunity to get them out. Thank you for sharing! The 17th is less than a month away!

Good morning! Hope that you're doing alright. No, the 17th isn't far away, and so exciting knowing that you are taking the right step to preserve your health. It's so good that you are health conscious, and are into taking care of yourself :) Just yesterday, I took the step of meeting with an outstanding surgeon to discuss explants. He examined my breasts, and told me that he felt lumps on the right side of my breast, and also said that most likely, my implants are ruptured. Yikes, I cannot imagine silicone leaking within me :( I'm waiting to hear back from my insurance company whether or not they'll allow for me to get the MRI that I requested just a couple of days ago when I was seen by a surgeon. If my insurance company ends up paying for the explants, I will need to meet in person with their plastic surgeon with a list of questions. It's really tempting to just go in debt, and select a plastic surgeon of my choosing. I reside in Southern California, and there happen to be a lot of qualified plastic surgeons in this area. I was very satisfied with the surgeon's credentials and experience that I met with yesterday, so I will definitely keep him in mind. My silicone implants were put in beneath the muscle 26 years ago, and I developed a large solid tumor on my thyroid, so had a partial thyroidectomy, and now I'm dealing with a cyst on my breast. I'm convinced that its time to do something about it. I'll let you know what I find out from my insurance company. I'm wondering how you went about choosing g a surgeon when you first began the process of selecting one? The surgeon I met with yesterday, quoted me $8600 for removal along with a lift. I don't know whether or not to get the lift. I was told by the plastic surgeon yesterday, that he would not do a general anesthesia due to my fragile health. Mostly because of the weight loss of 50 pounds over the course of the past 3-1/2 years. The food allergies I developed have limited me to eating very few foods. Are you planning to do a preparation diet prior to your surgery and/or a detox diet post op? I cannot recall whether you are also going for a lift or not or new implants? I'm really leaning towards explants only?? Well, take great care and hope you have a healthy day today! I plan to do a green thing of juicing a mix of organic veggies :) It's what I mostly rely on for nutrition. I have to avoid carbs since I struggle with candida like sympty. I cannot wait 'til I get them toxic implants out if my body!! Take care, Twila

Hi Twila! sorry to hear about your situation. Insurance companies can be a real b*tch, but I hope everything works out! I found my surgeon through real self and google lol. It took a little while to find one I liked, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end. I might need a lift in the future, bc my breasts were saggy after having kids, but the doctor suggested waiting and seeing how they heal before making a decision on a lift. I'm not going to have new implants put in though. I'm so over fake boobs. I want to feel real again. I'm also not having general anesthesia, they're doing mild sedation with local anesthesia... honestly, it freaks me out a little bit, but I trust my doctor and his team and I know it will be SO worth it (but hopefully they give me enough of the "mild sedation" pills lol). I don't have a pre-op or post-op diet, but that is something I'm going to look into- thanks for the idea! good luck with everything! :-)

aw, thanks! Implants are definitely more involved than I (and I think most women) realize. I'm just glad I found this community so I can hear from and share with other women in a similar situation.

Hey Poppinfresh! Hope ALL is going well for you! I'm getting back in touch to let you know that I met with a board certified surgeon yesterday for my explant surgery, and I am now officially scheduled for surgery on March 30th and I praise God for how He has led :) You take care and if you have time, please let us know how you're doing!! Thank u

How are you doing? Hopefully all is well! I have good news, I have an explant surgical date of March 30th, and a preop date of 3-19th. Woohoo! :) Thanks for your encouragement, and again, I hope you're doing alright.

T-minus 6 days and counting!!

Tuesday is the big day!! I have everything ready to go, and the closer it gets the more excited I get. I've been waiting for what feels like forever to have my implants removed and it's almost time!!! Last week I went bra shopping for a few post surgery bras. I found a post-surgical compression bra on amazon that was well reviewed, and then I got 5 "high support" sports bras from Target. My doctor said I will be about the same size as I was prior to my implants, possibly a little bigger because of the weight gain, so I got everything in a medium size which should be about right.
As I wrote in my previous post, I'm not going under general anesthesia. My doctor is doing local anesthesia with a mild sedation. I'm don't know exactly what to expect, but he said I will be comfortable. I will definitely update as it gets closer. Good luck to all you ladies that are having explant surgery around the same time as me! I will be keeping you all in my thoughts for sure. And thank you to those of you that have taken the time to post here. It's really very encouraging to read experiences similar to mine from other people

UPDATED FROM PoppinFresh

almost time!

PoppinFresh
the day after tomorrow, I will be implant free! Every time I look in the mirror, I picture what my body will look like without these huge breasts, and it makes me happy. I can't wait to feel like a normal person again, without two huge embarrassing bags of silicone!!! I can't believe how excited I am about having small breasts again. I'll get to wear cute lacy bras, or those cami tank tops with the built in bra, and bathing suits that don't make me feel obscene.
My advice to anybody considering breast implants: do your homework. Spend so much time researching, and then spend even more time. Go on numerous consultations. Talk to women who have had implants. And go for a size that's smaller than you want. If my implants weren't this big, I'd definitely consider keeping them. However, at the time, the doctor told me "the number on cause for dissatisfaction is going too small. most women have a second surgery to go bigger" foolishly, i decided to just go big the first time to avoid a second surgery- HA HA HA, yeah right, that worked out so well.
I'll update again. I've got my post surgery supplies- sports bras, comfort food (jello, pudding, soup, etc), my laptop, a neck pillow (helped so much after the first surgery), and a pretty rad coloring book, because seriously who doesn't like to color.
T-Minus 38 hours and counting!!
