Lived Too Long with This Nose!
It's been 5 months since rhinoplasty.
Today I had an appointment for a second on my nose with a surgeon I had used in the past. He spent a lot of time with me – he examined my nose thoroughly, he sat down and drew out what he sees happening within my nose as I try to breathe. We also discussed the aesthetic changes that would improve my look that I did not get from my first surgery. He told me my nose is still too large for my face. I absolutely agree. But now my biggest concern is just being able to breathe. Sleeping at night is terrible and exercise is a really tough as a mouth breather. He drew a diagram of my nose and how the valve is collapsing as a breathe air in. He explained we would have to do a graft which will support my nose better. He can do aesthetic changes If desired.
If I go forward with a revision with this second opinion surgeon, it will be like starting over financially and recovery-wise. He also told me I need to wait until at least nine months post op from my first surgery. This would mean July 2016. In the meantime, he recommended I stop on the way home to purchase breathe right strips's to wear on my nose. I have one on right now and cannot believe what a wonderful feeling it is. I am looking forward to sleeping for the first time tonight without my mouth propped wide open.
Still can't breathe
I've tried Sudafed a few times, but I didn't notice much of a difference. I'm scared now- something must be wrong. Collapsed septum? The only time I can breathe through my right nostril is when I either pull my right cheek towards my ear so the tissue separates inside or I stick a q-tip up my nostril to force an airway :-( The worst part of it all is that I don't like the profile of my nose at all. I went into this with a BIG and wide nose. The dr made it much more narrow, but the profile is 80% the same. It is still very protruding!! It's big! When I look at it in the mirror from the side I feel like I want to throw up. I paid close to $10k, haven't breathed through my nose in over a month, still have eye bruising, and my profile hasn't really changed. I just can't believe it. I need to post more profile view pictures of before and after.
Tomorrow I have an apt with the doctor. At my last appt 2 weeks ago, he mentioned how great it looks and what great work he does. I told him I was concerned about the size. He gave the swelling response. I'm certain its swollen, but I'm not dumb enough to believe it's going to get a ton smaller than this either. Ugh.

It does take about 6wks to get rid of bruising BUT that depends on the individual...it can take 6mo or longer to achieve final results as far as the shape etc of the nose..as for the ongoing difficulty in breathing sounds like that is swelling also..suggest sleeping with head elevated and not doing things that increase pressure to face/head until the problem improves...My brother's nose was broken in multiple places from a motorcycle wreck..looked awful and he could not breath thru it at all...I paid for his surgery and took care of him afterwards with the understanding he would do what MD said... The obvious was no karate, kick boxing, weight lifting and anything that put the new nose in the line of fire!!! MD said for at least 6mo but he would prefer a year! Well, summer came around in about 4mo and he went WATER SKIING...You got it,,,fell off the skis going very fast and sure enough,,,nose ended up with 1 big hump and angled toward the side...I said, "Too bad" it was a one time gift...He didn't think "water would hurt it"...good luck
