I had a breast augmentation in early 2006 after having one baby in the spring of 2005. Then I had 2 more pregnancies 1 in the fall of 2007 and 1 in the spring of 2010. Somehow my right implant started deflating, it is a very slow deflation and I noticed it over the past year. So now the warranty is covering $2400 to help me replace both implants. My original dr. retired a few years ago so I scheduled a whole new consultation with a new dr. and that was on 2/3/11. I decided to get info on the tummy tuck as well. The biggest problem is my youngest is 22 lbs and I think the recovery is going to be difficult. I will have help the very first week, but soon after I will have to drive my oldest to and from school and I will need to be able to care for all 3 of my kids as I am a stay at home mom. Any advice would help. I can take it easy, but after 1 week will I be able to drive or pick up my baby if I need to?

Now I am a little over a week away from the big day. I have been through every emotion - nervous, anxious, worried, excited, you name it! And I have "what if..." so much I am going to make myself and my husband crazy! I am just going to pray to God everything goes good for me. I know so many of you have felt this way and I am so glad I found this website. I will be posting before and after pics soon, just not sure when I will have the time.

Ok, so I had my pre-op appointment on 3/1 and at that appt I changed my implants to high profile which was a little bit of a headache because they had to overnight the new implants. Then I did my blood work on 3/3 and everything looked good. Then on Friday 3/4 the office called me (3 days before my surgery) to inform me that my doctor went on an indefinite leave. So she tells me that my surgery is rescheduled for 3/19 with a different doctor. So here is the problem, the new dr is not board certified (according to my own research). I looked up all of his info and he has went to good schools and actually went to school for plastic surgery and he has worked in some of the nations top hospitals and it seems that he would just now be able to qualify to become board certified (according to the board's requirements of 3 years general surgery education, 2 years plastic surgery edu, and 2 years in practice). I understand the importance of being in an accredited surgical facility and having a board certified anesthesiologist, but I don't know if I should continue with this dr. I am going to meet him tomorrow 3/11 and ask him some indepth questions. I just don't know if I should consider him since he is not yet board certified? Any thoughts or advice? I will post again after I meet him.

Ok, so on Friday, 3/11, I went and met with the new surgeon. I asked a hundred and one questions and he answered everything in depth. He has already taken the written exam to become board certified and he has the oral exam left. He should be board certified within the next 2 months. He said if I wanted to wait so that I would be more comfortable that would be fine or if I wanted to go with another doctor that it would be fine that I do have options. I asked how many tummy tucks has he done and he said in a year about 147 and a large portion of those were to do the tummy tuck and use the skin to reconstruct a breast for patients that have lost their breast to cancer, etc. In all honesty, I feel very comfortable with him. There was not 1 question that he did not answer in depth. As for the anesthesiologist she is board certified and will stay in the room with me the entire time (surgery is estimated to take about 3 hours) and the facility is accredited. I am starting to become more excited and less anxious. I will keep updating as I go along.

Tomorrow is the big day! I have to be at the surgery center at noon. I have been bouncing back and forth - I think well the anesthesia is safe and I will have an excellent recovery process and then I start to get really anxious and think what if something (bad) happens to me or what if I can't handle the pain, etc. I know it is a little silly, I mean, I have been put under general anesthesia before for having wisdom teeth removed and my first breast augmentation 5 years ago, I'm not sure why I am so anxious this time around. I spoke to the office manager and she said when she did it a few years ago, she had a few rough days and then it was a breeze. I am just praying that everything will go smoothly for me. I will update when I can (hopefully, with pics too!)

Tomorrow is the big day! I have to be at the surgery center at noon. I am bouncing back and forth between excited and anxious. One minute I think well the anesthesia is safe and I will have a good recovery process, but then the next minute I think what if something (bad) happens to me, or what if I can't deal with the pain? The office manager had a tt done a few years ago and she said that the first few days were rough, but after that it was a breeze. I don't know why I am so anxious this time, I have been put under general before when I had wisdom teeth removed and with my first breast augmentation. I am just trying to tell myself that I am 26 years old, I run for an hour several times a week, and I eat mostly healthy foods, and after I gave birth I was out grocery shopping within a day or so, this shouldn't be anything that I can't handle, right? I will just keep praying for a smooth process. I will update and post pics when I can.

My surgery was rescheduled a second time - long story - so I finally had my surgery on 3/26/11. My surgery was originally scheduled to be about 3 hours long and it ended up taking 5 1/2 hours. The implant that had deflated had caused problems and he had to re-sew a new pocket for the new implant and that is what ended up taking extra time. I woke up from surgery fine (in some pain) but awake and not groggy at all. The first few days felt like I had been run over by a truck. After the first few days it wasn't so bad. My surgery was on a Saturday and I had my drains removed on Friday (on friday morning I was only draing 3cc and 5cc). I must be sensitive because it did hurt to remove the drains, but once those were out I felt great. The last pain pill I took was on Friday morning before taking out the drains, after that I switched to tylenol. By Saturday I went grocery shopping (with hubby) and Sunday I went to church - I was still a little hunched over but not very much I don't think anyone noticed. Yesterday, (Monday) was day 10 and I took care of my kids alone and drove to run a few small errands and I am basically standing up straight. I am taking it easy and not lifting anything heavy, but really I feel pretty normal. I will post some pictures later today. Hopefully, I'm not rambling too much, just trying to recap the past 11 days. Oh yes, and I have a few questions for those of you that are a little further down this road. I have never used spanx, if you have, what type do you recommend? Also, at what point did you start using scar creams and what works best? Thanks

I am having my TT on march 1st. I too worry about the lifting my kids stuff too, i have an 18 month old and a 3yr old they can mostly do without my lifting them and whatnot but it still gets me worried. i am having help the first 2 weeks which is good (while i have the drains in place) I would def see if you can find anyone like family/friend or even hire like a nanny or babysitter to help you around the house and help out with the kids if possible

Hi rainy,

Welcome to RealSelf!   How exciting to be able to have all of this done for yourself :)

One week after surgery you will not be able to lift much at all.  Is there any way of getting some help for the entire first two weeks.  You really should not be lifting anything at all during that time.  The driving will be another challenge after one week.   You are going to be extremely sore and need to focus on rest and recovery.

It scares me when I see women trying to push this so quickly.  If you do; it will slow your recovery time greatly.  Not trying to scare you but only give you realistic expectations.

This is a long and hard recovery and you can pretty much expect to be wiped out for the first six weeks post op.  I understand there are women out here who bounce back like the Energizer Bunny but that is not the norm.  I am happy for those who can do this but there are far and few like this.

I went into my surgery thinking I would be all healed and normal after two weeks and boy was I wrong.  I set myself up for big disappointment.

You will come through it fine but please be over prepared rather than under.  Set up the extra help ahead of time.  If you end up not needing it...WONDERFUL!

And please don't push yourself to the point of exhaustion.  That will set you back.  It is hard as a mom to surrender and let someone care for us but you must do this.

Your final results will be much better if you focus on the early stages of recovery.

I'd be mad! When is the original doctor coming back? If this new guy isnt board certified, i'd definatley ask to see a lot of his before and after pictures and see if there is a difference in pricing maybe.

if this dr isn't board certified there is no way I would do it. They can't just pawn you off on another dr that you didn't choose yourself... i would look into going somewhere else.... that isn't right! I would be upset for sure!

Honestly, I would go with BOARD CERTIFIED !

Hi rainy84!
I think you will be fine! I'm 10 days post op and I have a 35lb 2 yr old! I have had my husband here the first week or so helping me and I know we aren't suppose to lift but you know like me that it doesn't always work out that way with babies! So after the first week as long as you lift properly, with your legs, you should be fine. I have felt really good every since day 5. But I don't over do it and I keep taking pain meds to help with discomfort! I've been having to lift my 2yr old in and out of the crib for the past 3 days now and I haven't hurt myself. I think active healthy women heal much faster, especially if we're extra careful the first week!! Good luck, everything will be great!!:)
