Acne has left my life different, and I believe...

Acne has left my life different, and I believe that many who went through moderate to severe acne can understand. The trauma is not over afterwards however, they leave permanent deep scars which will potentially stay with you for life.

Scars, unlike marks are permanent. Marks left by acne are just brown pigmentation due to the production of melanin. These will usually go away with time as new skin cells from the dermis migrate upwards to replace the old skin cells. However, scars are different. Scars can be a change in texture such as becoming depressed or raised as a result from the difference in collagen type and weaving. Although our skin renew itself every 28 days, but the scars happen deep in the skin and remain there.

There are definitely many scars treatments available now, and I certainly would recommend other options first before laser due to its potential complications. Depending on the type of scars you have, there are many options such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, surgery and even creams or gels. While shown varying degrees of success, results from the traditional scar treatments may be unreliable and unpredicable.

I've heard of dermarolling back in 2011/12, but was not able to continue any rolling due to the pain level. My scars are mainly localised on the cheeks, composing mostly box car and ice pick depressed scars. They have since matured and are of 6 years old (2015), which may be harder to treat as compared to fresh scars. I don't have a protocol that I follow, it was just rolling, or stamping until plasma starts to leak. It was only until June 2015 that I've prepped my skin a week prior to microneedling with Vitamin C (20% from OST) and RetinA. I apply Palmers' Skin Therapy Oil for face with retinol immediately after and for the following week. Occasionally, I'm reminded to do suction (with a clean vacuum cleaner tip) as recommended by owndoc to prevent short collagen fibres from re-attaching and tether the scars down.

Results after 3 treatments

It might be a little hard for you to follow because of the different angles, I've drawn attention to some scars for individual comparison. http://cindity.blogspot.sg/2015/11/treatment-dermarollingresults.html The icepicks does not seem to respond as greatly as the boxcars. There is however, a difference in morphology where the icepicks get shallower but wider. Slight elevation is noted on the boxcars, but the edges are still pretty stark.
