I am in on tray 22 out of 26. I started treatment after about 6 months of TMJ treatment with my orthodontist. I was in a lot of pain back then and because of poor dental work and being given a mouth guard which did more harm than good, I opted to receive TM J treatment and Invisalign. Expensive, but am happy with the changes so far!

Did the Acceledent speed the process noticeably?

Well, I wore the first couple of trays for two weeks each and noticed slow, but sure progress. With Acceledent, it takes one week of wear, and then I am ready for the next tray. I know I am ready because after about five days, the trays are no longer tight and come off more easily. Even though Acceledent sets you back by about 1200 CDN (around 850-900 USD?), I think the fact that it speeds treatment up makes it worth it!

Hello Teddie MC, thanks for the encouragement! Yes, this may be the end, but I am also bracing myself for refinements, if necessary!

Hey Tinyminion. Your progress looks great! I'm from Montreal too and I plan on making appointments for consultations this summer. May I ask who your Orthodontist is?

Hi misty_mtl - the orthodontists are Dr. Go and Dr. Thorpe. Dr. Go has over thirty years experience. They are Elite Invisalign providers, which I think means they have treated more than 300 (tell me if I'm wrong) patients with Invisalign.

Thanks for replying back :) I've been planning on checking her out for a while now but I've heard so much about how expensive and cold she is and that's whats stopping me:/

I agree that treatment with her will be expensive. For myself, I wanted to go with someone who is experienced and great at what she does. I don't think Dr. Go is cold. I would say she is ambitious and forthright. She also works with Dr. Thorpe (her son), who is very skilled. You would not be interacting with her all the time, since she distributes the work on your treatment between her technicians and her son (this doesn't bother me). I can understand that you want to shop around. I would say go with an experienced orthodontist and Invisalign provider (but not a dentist!), and go for quality, even if it means spending a bit extra. Let me know who you decide to go with!

Beautiful smile. What type of TmJ treatment did your orthodontist provide? I have TmJ and was advised to have 2 years in braces with rubber bands a few years ago. I'm in my 30's and mg cross bite wasn't corrected by the 2 sets of braces I had when I was young. But the main issue causing pain is TMJ. I just don't know where to start.

Thank you! My orthodontist had me in a night mouthguard that she customized for me frequently over the first few months of treatment. Treatment lasted about 5 months or so. My jaw was very unstable (it would wobble when I would talk!),I was in a lot of pain, I broke, abscessed, and lost a tooth, and couldn't imagine how I would ever get over it all. My teeth kept trying to reach each other and clench together. When there would be new shift in the jaw, she would re-shape the mouthguard to ensure that my teeth wouldn't touch. It was like my jaw was being tricked into retraining, so I wouldn't clench anymore. Anyway, toward the end of TMJ treatment, I still need to fix the teeth because they had shift so much. That's when she put me in braces! I think a good orthodontist would follow that kind of two-phase, protocol, where your TMJ is treated first, and the bite and teeth are aligned afterwards. I wish you lots of luck in finding a great provider and relief from the TMJ. I know how debilitating it can be! I tried many, many alternative treatments to fix it...we can chat more about that later, if you like!

Thank you for all the info! Seems like you have a great plan in place. It's a long process but so worth it I know. Can't wait to see your final results! Hope to get a consult myself soon.

Is Acceledent painful?

Not at all! Are you thinking of getting it? I think if you want to speed up your treatment, it's really worth it!

Tray 23 of 26 - The home stretch!

User Avatar

I changed trays a few days back, and I have to say that this one, # 23, makes me feel pretty sore. There's one area along the front upper teeth which is being pulled down and pushed together. Anyway, it's all good, it's part of the treatment plan, so I won't complain. Here are a few photos from today. I forgot to point out that when I started out with Invisalign about 6.5 months ago, I had an open bite , which made it difficult for me bite into food (I'd have to bite into food using my canines and front molars), But, no more. Maybe you can notice that fact that the bite closed from today's photos.

Hi, Dre3wx! Thanks for the kind words - so sweet of you! Hopefully treatment will be done, unless our Dr. Go wants me to have refinements...I am ok with that, since with the Acceledent, treatment goes pretty fast!

Dental cleaning, my cleaning routine, and the dreaded black triangle

User Avatar

Yesterday, I had my first dental cleaning since I started treatment 6 months ago. The dental hygienist said cleaning my teeth was a breeze, since I took such good care of them. She said the gums were really healthy, and with very little plaque. I get A+ for good hygiene! Cleaning has almost become a part-time hobby, since it takes so long.

For those who might be curious, my cleaning regime consists of soaking my trays in a mix of equal parts peroxide and water (this helps keep the trays from becoming stinky), occasionally brushing them with toothpaste, flossing and *gently* brushing my teeth thoroughly, and using a Waterpik (an oral irrigator) on my teeth about three times a day, after every meal.

Since I have my aligners on all the time except when I eat, I was shocked to only notice yesterday just how big a black triangle-like space I have between my lower front teeth. Sigh. At least it's not terribly noticeable, even when I smile.
