I am 48, two kids 21 and 20. About four years ago I started working out "vigerously" as my family doctor would say. I fell into a group of triathletes and began working out outside. I had been loosing what would amount to a70# of weight loss. A lot happened as I got busy with my new hobby. Really busy. Last year I did some sort of race every weekend to include seven half ironman races. I never finished even in the top half of my age group but had a big sense of accomplishment having never biked a bike with gears, swam with my face in the water or ran anywhere except through the mall to get to a store before it closed.

I quite my desk job and started my own business cleaning homes with all natural products. Workouts became central to my life sometimes three a day and usually much more intense with dryland training for skiing, kettlebells and pump and tone raising the bar higher then the jazzercise or step aerobics I had been doing before getting into triathlons. So this year feeling that 120# will be my low weight at 5'4", I decided that the redundant skin, intense stretchmarks and various sections of flab that only I knew was jiggly when I ran a would have to go. When I looked in the mirror all I saw was a plate of deconstructed fish and chips. (sorry my husband always says I make a comparison during a story to food so that's for him).

Comparing pictures tonight I am quite pleased, day six and second drain probably comes out tomorrow. My back is sore, my stomach tight from the muscle tightening and some brusing at the flanks, but I think maybe just maybe in a couple of months I will run swim and bike just a smidge faster than I did before. If not the journey has still been amazing and I am sticking with my goal of a half ironman in every state. And when I visit my dad in Miami, I can go to the beach and shamelessly wear a bikini ;)

Really? Feel swollen and out of shape ar 11 weeks ?howcan this be. There is a line a separation of sorts from bb up. What's that!? Have picbut no way to upload from iPhone

Updated on 30 Apr 2012:
Had my "doggy ears" revised two weeks ago which amounted to removal of what looked like two butterflied jumbo shrimp Or 3" + from each end of the incision and a few stitches to the bb to take away the "hood". All I really feel like it did was keep me out of the pool for three weeks - maybe it would've been better toilet sleeping dogs lye ;)! Pic to follow n

Wow congratulations on the weight loss!   Job well done and I know you feel better:)

Go slow getting back into the exercise.  Don't wear yourself out the first week back at it.  Your body will take weeks to heal so stay focused on recovery and you will get there.

It sounds like you have a lot of energy!!   Do keep us up to date on your healing.  We would love to see some pre and post op pictures.

10 days post op, just posted pics - incision starting to tingle tonight but steristrips still holding on tight. For this week - dog walking - light snowshoeing on the trail (gotta make use of all this stuff), its so breathtaking outside with the little bit of new snow we finally got and watching lots of Netflix surfing movies to balance that out - while I am doing that I will get my vice grips and pinky ball, work on my hand and forearm strength I WILL be using soon enough in kettlebells and for biking- I will not waste any more time even while being idle. Signed up for two summer tri's and looking at three more for later summer.

Your pictures look wonderful!! Your ps did a great job.
Sarahstar1 5 Jan 2012
When did your PC say you can work out again? I really want to get back in the gym. I just hit 4 weeks yesterday. I cant wait to find out.
lindytri23 5 Jan 2012
well I am banned from swimming six weeks (that hurts) and skiing for 10 - that is because I work OUT - the ski will be a 50k race - I could go do some regular stuff at the gym and ease back into I suppose if I were normal, but since he knows I won't just do that he set longer limits for me,,, walking and easing into running when your ready and anything really if your not really engaging your abs especially hard at for weeks is probably fine depending on the extent of what you had done and how hard you work out- just have to be conscience of your body and what your doing - there is no one answer to that question, its all a matter of being in touch with your body and using common sense. You don't want to blow out any internal stitches and have to start all over so better safe than sorry. The median standards I am seeing seem to be 4 weeks down -start easing back in and 6-8 weeks until more strenuous exercise.

I talked to my PS today he is said I can walk.. (window shop walk) is what he said lol.. Man oh man.. I want to run.. But I do not want to hurt myself. So I guess I will walk and wait lol.
lindytri23 5 Jan 2012
And look at all the extra skills we get to work on during the process (patience, saving, communicating about our health, learning new hobbies, patience, endurance, sleeping, concentration skills if reading and watching movies, patience) hudda thunk!?

So happy for you! Enjoy the sun!
Bellanocha 10 Jan 2012
LOL Lindy! Patience is a virtue-apparently a virtue that I DO NOT have-I understand completely about the not being able to work out as usual-I'm heading in this am to the 'y' to WALK on the treadmill-the plan is 30 min. - at least I'll get back into the routine of going!? Good Luck to you!! :)I'm really into kickboxing, muscle works (body pump) & spinning- those things are still going to be a BIT further away-my surg. was day before you!
lindytri23 10 Jan 2012
spinning - oh the pain of missing that!!! (esp since my instructor is just back at it after a 3 month leave and relocation) but with temps up to 60 degrees higher than normal I see bikers outside everywhere, crazy.

whew...this is easing my nerves a bit. I am definitely not a tri-athlete not even close, but I live an extremely unconventional life. You are one week ahead of me in your TT recovery. I had a tt done in doc's office being fully aware with light sedation. I didn't want to slow down recovery from effects of anesthesia. I travel to remote villages in Africa 4x a year for my organization. Kind of hard to plan TT and breast lift with that schedule. It basically left me 7 weeks for recovery. In Africa, my work is strenuous. Hiking over mountains in high altitude to get the villages I work in. I'm two weeks post-op. Feeling pretty good. Cleared for swimming this week. I guess, I'm really nervous about my upcoming trip in 5 weeks. I am counted on to lead the team, keep up the morale and have a really good energy to serve the amazing villagers. Looking forward to see your progress. Hoping it keeps me focused knowing that I can do it!
lindytri23 22 Jan 2012
amazing! your work sounds fascinating,, I would love to hear more about it. It would have been nice to get 'light sedation' I think I have a high pain tolerance and did not do well under general again - it was horror. Swimming at 2 weeks, really ?? I'm jealous. You should post some pics and a review...

You look great! I'm scheduled for 2/15... Nervous, anxious, excited...hope I do as well as you!

Right now my best advice to you is to talk to or read what some of the girls in December have had to say. We have alot of things to say and share. I wish you well on your surgery. If you need anything please feel free to send me a note and ask anything. I am always open and willing to share.
Bejewelme 11 Feb 2012
Lindy! You look super, I am a workout queen but you make me feel like slug!!! LOL I am glad to read that you have had a rather easy time with this, I am sure the better physical shape you are in helps a bunch! I wanted to ask you, with being inactive and having lost weight what are you eating? I lost 150 pounds and I a so worried about what to eat while I am inactive?? Any thoughts would be great!!!! Good luck with your races!! You will be back and killing it soon enough!
lindytri23 11 Feb 2012
I was doing so well with eating. Small Portions all healthy and I tried to carry that into my post op diet. Important thing was I was healing and realized eating healthy was most important and not to skip meals. Living strong had a great write up on PO TT diets.

Hi, i think yout last picture on here looks good. You can really see the differance compared to you before pic. I can't really see the line or bluge before and under the bb in the last picture. I had my surgery 12/12 and i am also really swollen some days. I also still have a little bit of a bulge that sits over the incision and is always puffier on my right side, which i plan on bringing up again at my next appointment. i also still have some love handles i'm not happy with, but my dr said that he really couldn't do much about them because he went as far back as he could and the only way to really get rid of them is with lipo (which i didn't have any of with the tt because he wouldn't do). So he has told me to sit tight and give it till the 6month or even year mark before really worrying and considering lipo. In addition to all that sometimes i feel like he really didn't pull me tight enough and i still have a good amount of stretch marks left all the way to my bb that i really hate! I really liked my doctor and am pretty happy with my results (expect for the few things i just mentioned) but sometimes i wish he wouldn't be so conservative and would have done the lipo at the same time as the tt... :( my main reason for picking this doctor was because I also had my gallbladder removed at the same time and he and my gi dr had worked together before...

So i would tell you to sit tight as well and give it sometime. You look great in your pics and i can really see the differance in each pictures above that you seem to improve more and more.

Good feedback. I did get theralk about going as far on the sides too /something about circulation. He has said in April he can do an in office touch up on the sides. If so it will mean another few weeks off and a possible recocery trip to Miami. I think he was ok conserative about the scar. I tell him I'm like a pirate and don't care about the scar ;).
Bellanocha 7 Mar 2012
Hi Lindy!! I think you're looking REALLY GREAT!! I really can't see any questionable areas at all! Since you're about as far along as I am-do you have some swelling/scar tissue below bb but above scar in center?? I have & have had for weeks now-hoping it will eventually go away-don't think it could be fluid because it's soo hard! I see ps again the end of this month but thought I'd check with you :)
lindytri23 7 Mar 2012
I can't really tell about gay center area. I remember one day it felt really weird like I was getting sensation back along there. I guess everything is so sensitive and variable from person to person tha it is gonna do what it's gonna do so that's why we wait so long to give it a chance to do it whatever it may be.
lindytri23 7 Mar 2012
*the center area ;)
