I am in my first week of treatment. I am surprised in looking through the reviews that I have read, no one mentioned the following points:

Maybe I am still adjusting but sometimes I definitely have a lisp. Very annoying.

Feel like I have dry mouth all the time.

Very inconvenient in terms of eating and drinking as you are only meant to drink water with them in. So if you are having an evening out or going to a party where you will be eating and drinking over several hours, not sure how that's supposed to work.

I will probably be wearing regular braces at the end of the Invisalign in order to fully correct my bite issues, so it will be interesting to compare, but at this point I am kind of regretting not just going into the braces from the start.

My slight lisp went away, but I would advise your ortho to address this as he/she may be able to file down some edges to help.

When you go out to a party, just take your case in your purse and take them out in the bathroom and leave them out til you get home or something. Not a big deal.

Thanks, I will try filing the edges to help. What I meant about parties or special occasions was more to do with the time - since you are meant to have them in 22 hours out of 24. I am finding it difficult even on a normal day.. by the time I eat my breakfast and drink my two cups of coffee, I have already used up a big chunk of the 2 hours.

I drink with them in. Go for light fluids- champagne, vodka/soda white wine. Just swish with water after. I am out and about for drinks so often it would be a shame to take them out for that long.

I am going to do this as well. I don't really see any need to take them out for drinking unless it's something hot.

Hi kmama65,

Welcome to the Invisalign community. It looks like I'm a little late coming to comment. :) Other community members have mentioned having a dry mouth, and said they just drank a lot of water until their mouth adjusted. It's funny because you have the complete opposite problem when you have regular braces, all you do is drool.  I guess the grass is always greener ;) How long do you have to wear Invisalign? Please keep us updated.

Thanks so much for the review,

-Britt

Hi Britt, I have to wear them for about 7-8 months. I will probably be in regular braces after that for a few months in order to properly fix my bite, which Invisalign alone can't do.
BrittB 31 Mar 2011

Hi kmama65,

Well 7-8 months isn't that bad, and with a few months of braces to follow should be easy. I too had braces for my bite many years ago, but had to wear them for a very, very long time. I'm glad yours will only be a few months. I'm sure when this is all finished you will have amazing teeth.

Keep us updated,

-Britt

I am also in my first week of treatment...I was suprised they didnt start becoming painful til I wore them for around 8 hours, I thought it would be most painful when you first put them in but I found the pain comes from constant pressure over time. I dont have any problems with speech, however my tongue is getting sore on the bottom right and its getting worse. I tried filing down and cutting down the edges as Ive seen suggested on here but it does not seem to be working. There's no cut that I can see but its just irritated and I cant figure out why. This is certainly not something I was expecting and is turning into quite a nuisance. Any ideas?

I would try gargling with hydrogen peroxide perhaps. Good Luck.

Hi, yes sometime I have a slight lisp as well and Have noticed that people find it harder to understand me now. Especially if my alighners don't fit correctly, which alot of them don't since all of my teeth haven't moved correctly.
It is very inconvenient if you go out alot and want to eat and drink. I drink with them on but you can't eat with them. I think you would have been better off just going with the braces or by going with lingual braces if possible.

I don't know what lingual braces are. But as far as going out, I just pop them out for the evening and make sure I'm wearing them as much as possible the next day to make up for it.
