Bye Bye Leaking PIP Implants - UK

Hello Ladies... Currently killing time until my operation to remove my HMG fitted PIP implants that are BOTH leaking. Here's a bit of background... Had them fitted in 2008, at my consultation I was told the biggest risk would be capsulation, NO mention of leaking or rupture... Late 2011 I find a lump, have an ultrasound, lump is fine but wear and tear on my implants are noted. Swept under the carpet until the PIP "scandal" hit the headlines. HMG wouldn't pay for a scan so had it done at my expense to reveal both implants had leaked within the capsule and extracapsular too (apparently ALL implants leak within the capsule). I also have silicon in my lymph nodes, the largest piece measuring 1.5cm in diameter. Won't to see a surgeon at my local BMI hospital who is doing a removal and capsulectomy on the 14th March. The capsule has to come out due to the extent of the leaking. Not having them back in because there is no way I want to go through this again, because of the silicon in my lymph nodes (if implants leak again they won't be able to use this as an indicator). Have been reading this website since I got the news and it's been really helpful, now feel like a PIP expert! Can't wait to have them out now. Planning on updating this as an when there are developments.

14th March 2012 - Laying in my hospital bed and feeling fab!

The build up to today has been pretty horrible, but this website has really helped to get me through so I wanted to just let you all know... NO REGRETS, RELIEF AND EXCITED ABOUT MY PIP-FREE FUTURE!!!

Got here at half 8, was visited by the nurse, anaesthetist and Mr Toft, all of whom where wonderful, kind and reassuring. Went down at about 11am and not sure what time I came back but slept most of the afternoon. Haven't had any pain, although I am dosed up. Am pretty strapped up so can't tell you what they look like they although I can see that they have shape and are still there.

I have been fortunate to have been through this experience with a good friend (same implants fitted by HMG). She has had hers replaced an hour before me and has gone home already. Even seeing how lovely hers look, I still have no regrets about having mine removed.

I have before implant and with implant pictures that I will post once i have decent after explant photos. Mr Toft has already emailed me my implant pictures but i am not strong enough to look yet. If any of you have any questions answered or want some reassurance, please get in touch, I want to help others like the girls on here have helped me.

Will write a proper review for my removal experience soon but so far, all i can say is, outstanding.

Breast implants - £4500, Implant removal and capsulectomy - £3600, being just me again and coming through this a stronger and happier girl - priceless.

Xxx

Day 6 Post Explant

Just to recap on my last update, was still high on anaesthetic when I wrote it so missed a few bits...

My left implant came out pretty much intact so did not need a capsulectomy, my right side had ruptured quite badly so need a capsulectomy. This has made me a little uneven as you will see from the pics I am about to post...

The care I reviewed was outstanding and would highly recommend the surgeon and hospital, if any of you want details, please let me know - not sure where we stand with "advertising" on here!

Had my bandages off today and had the big reveal. Am very pleased with the results, left breast in my opinion looks better than before the BA and the right does look a little sad but I dont think I know they will change over the next few weeks so not concerned.

I did love my big boobs but dont really feel any different without them, I havent missed them yet. Physically I look different, my shape has changed but thats inevitable, more incentive to shift some weight and get my body into proportion again!

My biggest concern pre-explant was how I would feel mentally, it took me a few hours to properly look at them. To be perfectly honest it really hasnt phased me, Its quite a big change for a female to go through, and I guess I'm surpised that it hasnt hit me harder. The last few weeks all I can think about is having them out and perhaps now any negative feelings I might have had are insignicant compared to the relief I feel. I am so thankful that I was able to have them out so quickly.

Am posting some picture now of pre-BA, post BA and post explant... also some lovely pictures of my implants!

If any of you reading this have any questions or need reassurance about explant, please get in touch, this site helped me so much and now I want to give back.

Thank you all for your support xxxxx

2 Weeks since the Explant...

Pretty much back to normal now, still taking it easy but other than that feel absolutely fine. Right breast is looking a lot more like my left so feeling more even now.

Having implants is a distant memory and I have yet to miss them. Am posting a pic of me taken last night.

As always, any questions, let me know :-)

Sam xx

4 Months after Explant...

Seems such a distant memory and still no regrets. My clothes look better, I am more comfortable, can sleep better, wear nicer underwear, have massages, sleep without a bra on, play sport without wearing two sports bras, sleep on my front, and I feel so much lighter and ladylike (didn't expect that!).

I even went topless by the pool on holiday, I may have scars but they are scars that remind me of how lucky I have been.

If anyone has any questions or needs any support, please contact me i'd be happy to help. The ladies on this site made the whole ordeal so much easier and I will always be grateful.

Sam xx

I hade removal on the 9th this month. In a way I am happy but at the moment I can't still cope with it. I keep crying and I can't look at them. I had a pick after the operation and I was in tears, they are disgusting! They are smaller then before the implants. I try to think about people worse then I am but I just can't help it. I have been reading stories on this website and most people are quite happy with the result but I am not at all. I don't know what to do!!! :-(

Unicorn76, it was a big decision to get them and it's a big decision to get them out!  Try to focus on the positive! Like no foreign / unnecessary objects in your body!  No worries about future surgeries, etc!  I even looked forward to hugging people with the thought in my head that the recipient could feel my implants...lol. Being explanted has given me the freedom to just enjoy life to the fullest without feeling fake/uncomfortable!  Think about what is best for you overall........while I pray for your peace!  It's coming!

Thank you very much for your words, I will write them down and take them with me and every time I am feeling upset I will read them.
Thank you for your support!!!

Hi just wondered did you have your lymph nodes removed I have been told I have enlarged ones and wondering if they will need to come out this is a nightmare ruptured implants are bad enough but when they are filled with crap its even worse those people who filled these things should be strung up and the surgeons who bought them should be sued buying cheap inferior implants
samstars 16 Jul 2012
Mum1'

I didn't have my lymph nodes removed and far as I am concerned there is still silicone in them. My ultrasound detected lumps in them up to 1.5cm in diameter so I guess time will tell if they have any long term effect. I completely agree that it is disgusting how we have been treated x

Is the last photo after the explant? You haven't changed a thing.
samstars 16 Jul 2012
Yes the last photo is after the explant - I prefer them now to what they were before I had implants! Xx

Hi, I am still waiting for Harley Medical Group to give me a date for my PIP replacement. I saw the surgeon last week and he told me to go down to book my operation with reception. They said I have to wait for someone to call me to give me a date as I am considered a PIP patient and NOT a private patient. So they will have to see if the surgeon can squeeze me in for surgery somewhere! I paid for my surgery etc in full five 5 years ago. It is unfair as it is not my fault they gave me a faulty pair of cheap implants. They must have known PIP was not quality especially due to the price (£40 a pair) and high rupture rate. Is anyone else still waiting for HMG to book their PIP replacement operation. Thank you.
Elly24 7 Jun 2012
trapped silicone in lympth nodes - some women also have part of lymph node removed. NO IMPLANTS ARE SAFE - i don't care what the surgeons say, they have too much finanically invested to say otherwise. Any foreign body inserted in the human body poses a risk ! From either silicone, or bacterial infection or and from the bag the substance is held in. Hip replacements joint etc the list goes on - be natural be safe!!

Dear Samstars
Thank you so much for taking all the trouble to type your experience and also for uploading photos. I have just had my PIP's removed but I am still waiting for the harley medical group to book my operation date for new safe implants. Sadly I am even flatter than I was pre augmentation in 2006. I am not even an AA. I also have a lump, which I have been told may be a lympth node with trapped silicone. Do you still have your lumps and are they near your armpit? Thank you so much. xx
samstars 16 Jul 2012
Diamondfudge,

Are you still waiting? Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. I am a bit lumpy bumpy yes - am going to go back and see the surgeon that removed them just for him to take a look over and tell me what I should be feeling - need to get to know my breasts again! I still have silicone in my lymph nodes - I was told it is quite dangerous to try and remove them xx
diamondfudge 16 Jul 2012
Hi Samstars
I am still waiting for surgery from the harley medical group.
I have decided not to get the lymth nodes removed as I don't want to be left with a permanently swollen arm and prone to catching infection! :-(
The sad thing is the lumps are painful and huge.

Hi, I'm going to call transform tomorrow because of the leaking implants (I can't wait for them to call me back) to ask what I have to do next. Has someone go to transform? Did you have removed from them? Apart from few different phone calls I made, they have been quite fast in acting. Thank you
Unicorn 76 18 May 2012
Hi girls, I'm new here and it is really helpful reading your experiences. I have pip implants and today I went for a scan and my right one is leaking. I don't know why but I started crying! I'm thinking to get them removed without replacement but I'm so scared! I saw some horrible pictures on internet of hanging boobs (they look like deflated balloons), but me too, I don't want to go through all this again. I still feel like crying. I'm feel so depressed!
GreenTemple (RealFriend) 18 May 2012
Unicorn76,

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this but know that we are here to support you through such a difficult/scary time! I know its hard not thinking about how our breast will look after implants but there's a silver lining that goes beyond aesthetics - that's your peace of mind! I can say I happy to be me...saggy deflated boobs and all! They are mine and now feel better than I have in years! Please keep your head up as I pray for you to make the right decision for YOU! All breast are not create equally!
Ciao
samstars 16 Jul 2012
Unicorn,

Greentemple is exactly right, your peace of mind will outweigh everything. You will be so glad that they are gone! A for crying, I cried for a week! The poor man that did my ultrasound has to put up with me wailing! Be strong, it will be fine x

Hey Sam! Hope you're doing well! Have you noticed any changes in the last few weeks. I have to say, the last picture you posted is fantastic! You really have had a brilliant result :)
samstars 16 Jul 2012
Hi louloubear. To be honest, nothing has changed in the last couple of months, the scars are slowly getting fainter. I have joined the gym and have been doing some chest excercises which has helped. How are you getting on? Xx
louloubear 17 Jul 2012
If I had the money, I would remove them tomorrow. But sadly unless I get a generous donation from a long lost relative, it's unlikely to happen. My own breast tissue has grown over the last year or so and I know I'd be fine without them. I don't want to have more surgery and I don't want to be to have the added worry when I get round to mammogram age. But I just can't afford to do anything about it at the moment :( Sorry, that seems terribly depressing!!
Unicorn 76 17 Jul 2012
What about the private clinic, if you went to one, or nhs?
louloubear 17 Jul 2012
Mine aren't PIP and I have been scanned for rupture, although only on one side!! (I was experiencing pain on one side and had a lump that needed investigating, but they only scanned one side, which I only realised afterwards. I was just glad everything was ok!). So I wouldn't qualify (or ask!) to have them removed on nhs.

I had mine done with Transform - considering the amount of trouble people with PIP's had in getting them to take them out, I doubt they'd take my perfectly "healthy" implants out without a significant fee.

Although you have just reminded me, I have called them twice about having a consult with the surgeon who performed my operation and I haven't had a phone call back......

I'm just going to have to save somehow.

Hoping to look half as fabulous as you! Continue to heal inside and out! Thanks so much for sharing!
