I had always told my friends "If I get laid off, the first thing I am going to do is get Botox". You see I am over 50 and had the upper lip of a smoker even though I was not one. And if I was going to compete for a job in the IT field I knew I would have to do something about it.

I recently was 'transitioned' and felt that was close enough to laid off, so a friend recommended Dermatology Consultants. My first appointment was with Dr. Gabriel Martinez-Diaz. I was extremely nervous never having had work done on my face and the thoughts of needles and Botox was scary. He discussed some options and did some injections of Botox. The results were I had an upper lip again which was exciting.

Since everything went well but I still had the harsh lines on my upper lip, I went and scheduled another appointment. Dr. Martinez-Diaz said let's just do injections of Juvederm for nasolabial folds (aka parenthesis around the mouth area) today. He did that and was given post treatment things to do like ice the area, etc. I did bruise a little and being fair skin makeup did not cover completely. The bruises lasted about a week.

Next, Dr. Martinez-Diaz treated those ugly harsh lines (aka perioral lines) and lip with Restylane Silk. He did warn me the injections would hurt and they did. About halfway through the procedure I thought about asking him to stop but I am glad I did not do that. When he was finished he said my lips would swell up but they would be OK.

At first like he said my lips did swell up quite a bit. But the recovery time was a lot less than last time (which may be due to the difference in the areas treated) and there were no bruises. Now, it is so exciting when I look in the mirror, it is just amazing not to see those harsh lines. Also, my lips look fuller but in a natural way.

Overall it has been a great experience and Dr. Martinez-Diaz did a super job.
