Be Prepared - Abs, Flanks, Inner Thighs

Had abs, flanks & inner thighs done 4-15-10....

Had abs, flanks & inner thighs done 4-15-10. It's now 4-17-10. Here's the scoop.

Drink lots of water everyday for a couple weeks pre-op and take the Arnica as directed (I'm not bruising much.) Cut back on salt. Day of- make sure to wear DARK colored sweats. You will be leaking bloody fluid like a sieve when you are done at the dr office. I had this done in a different city and had to return to a hotel. Believe me you wouldn't want to walk in there with blood soaked clothing on!

As for the procedure, I took 2 Darvacet at 8am. My appt was at 9, procedures began at 9:30. About 9am they game me valium. I was pretty relaxed by the time the procedure began. I can't even describe the way it all feels. The shots sting a little, the numbing fluid they put into you feels wierd, the laser was the least strange feeling, and the suctioning really hurt in certain areas. Like a really hard pinching. But when it was done it was done. no lasting pain, but it would take you by surprise. I think my thighs were the most painful. Anyway my 4 areas took about 3 hours to do. When they stand you up from the table when you are finished, fluid will just pour out of you onto the floor. I had 12 incisions in all. They will put bandages and dressings on the incisions, then get you into your compression garment. It will be immediately soaked! I would recommend wearing a rain suit home if you have one. If not- remember to wear DARK colored sweat suit.

I really was not in any pain. The nurse took me back to my hotel and said I would be better off to just not wear any clothes, just the compression garment. So that's what I did. The dr. office bave me a bunch of blue pads to use to cover chairs, etc with. I had also taken a plastic shower curtain liner to cover the bed with, then layed the blue pads over that. I laid on my back and tucked blue pads under my bra to cover my stomach area as to not get the sheets all stained. Everytime you get up from laying or sitting the fluid just pours out. i found it helpful to blot with paper towels so it wasn't running down your legs. I used about a whole roll of towels.

Another tip for those of you going out of town and staying alone in a hotel - make sure to bring food with you. You are not able to go out and about with all the leaking, so you will be confined to your room for about 24 hours. Pizza and chinese are full of salt- so you probably don't want to order out for those!

Again I was not in alot of pain. Only when i moved from sitting or laying I have a realy burning sensation. Took darvacet day of, but only taking and occasional Tylenol now.

I went back for my post op appt at 11am on the 16th- about 24 hours after procedure. They took off the dressings and both the nurse and the dr separately thought I was going to have very good results. My stomach looked flatter, but have a bulgy area still full of fluid. Can't really tell on my thighs- Dr said this is the area that takes longest to tighten up- 2 to 3 months.

When I got home last night and was able to strip down and take a shower I took some pictures. I see that I have some swelling and bruising in my genital area- probably because the compression garment isn't compressing as much there! Dr said it is good to walk and I can do some stuff with hand weights. No jogging or other strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.

I will post before and 1 day post op pics now. Will try to update pics at weekly intervals. I appreciated being able to see other posts when I was deciding to do this.

It's been10 weeks today. I don't feel I've seen...

It's been10 weeks today. I don't feel I've seen much progress since week 3. I have lost 5 1/2" from my lower abs and 2" from waist and 1 1/4" from inner thighs since procedure. Wehn I saw doc after 6 weeks he said I should see more tightening, but thighs and flanks take the longest and to be patient. Finally, the burning pain has gone away from my abs!!! Took about 8 weeks to get better!

I'm definately interested in the pics, the more good results I see will give me more confidence to go through with it! I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but with all I research I keep doing, the length of time it takes most to heal, quit hurting, quit swelling etc makes me wonder! Good luck on a fast recovery and keep us posted! Thanks!

I'm glad you're putting you're story out there for us, I'm still nervous about a much longer recovery than expected. I have fibromyalgia and I'm worried about how it might affect my recovery, but I really like everyone's after pics. I hope you can get yours posted soon. I also hope you start feeling better quickly. I agree about doubting the results since I see so much negative-yeah, how can that much be taken out without good results? I think there must be a longer swelling time frame than given. I wish the best for you and hope you keep giving us updates! I'm also 5'4" but 130lb but it's mostly shaping for me also, I have the tummy and other areas that don't go away no matter how much I exercise. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your story and pics! I have consulted with your same doctor and hope to start with upper and lower abs and flanks. I think you had fantastic results and I hope I would do as well. Your pics were very timely to allow me to see and hear someone other than what they supply for references. I'll be following your advice on everything and will be more prepared now.

Have you had your procedure yet? Today is week 3 for me. I measured this morning and have lost 2 inches off waist. Up until this point hadn't lost anything there. . Down 2" on lower abs. Thighs 1 3/4". I know it is still to get better. i am still very tender and wear my compression garment 24/7. It doesn't feel very good to go without it yet.My battery in my camera was empty, so didn't take pics this morning but will do so tomorrow and post soon as I get a chance. Would like to know your impression of our doc.

Hi, I have not had anything done yet. I'm seeing him again next month and another doc to get two different opinions on what my results would be. One minute I think I can do without, then I look at my muffin top and decide I do want it! All my research online seems to point to recovery being much longer than the couple of days they promote for the procedure. With your still having pain after 3 weeks confirming this it makes me nervous. Is it hard to do your normal daily stuff- work etc with the garment on? I'm amazed you hadn't lost any inches until now as your pics of the after have been impressive. Your shape definately changed right away, do you think it's just swelling? Do your clothes fit differently yet? Hope you can get the latest pics up soon. I appreciate all your honesty!

yes, I know my shape changed, but the inches didn't. due to swelling I think. i will measure again on thursday (5-13) That will be 4 weeks. I still have quite uncomfortable "burning" sensation on my stomach. I still wear my stage 2 compression garment 24/7 up until last night when I did not wear it to bed and got along OK. It hurts to "jiggle" like going over a bumpy road or rr tracks, and I can't do any high impact aeorbics. I do not have any muffin top which is awesome. Am still waiting for all the swelling to go away. the Dr said the thighs and flanks are the areas that take the longest to see results. I haven't been back to Dr yet since I live 3 hours away. i have appt on May 28th. Keep me posted on your situation.

Will keep you posted for sure- you've been nice with your input! I feel bad for you that you are still so uncomfortable, the burning sensation must be awful. It did make me wonder how they claim people can go back to work in two days-it's still surgery and fairly violent to your body-maybe that's more for if you do one area at a time. I am condsidering doing that as an option, but if it's a long and painful recovery, I may never do another body area! Hope you have a good appt and keep the pics coming. Thanks!

Depending on your work you could certainly go back in 2 days. I had it done on Thursday and was back at work on Monday with no problem- but I have a desk job. I drove home 3 hours on Friday after having it done and was OK. You do need to sit sort of streched out with back leaned back so as not to get a big crease in your middle. Really the only PAIN is when you move (bend in the middle). I don't know if you are a bikini person, but I don't think I would have it done in the summer as you won't have your best results during swim suit season, and you will be wearing compression garments awhile which may get a little warm. The legs come down fairly long, so you couldn't really wear shorts very easily. Yes- it is not as easy as they say. I know I will not have any more done. I am thrilled to be rid of my gut- but I have hard lumpy areas now. These will hopefully go away in a few months with massage (that's a little painful to do also!) I would recommend doing every area you want done at one time though. Especially if you want more than ab area- as this is the most painful. Flanks and thighs haven't hurt much.

Thanks to God, I am still livin' though this horrific event of lipo some 18 yrs. later. I had lumps all over my stomach, butt, inner and outer thighs. I never even needed my legs done-originally went in for a tummy tuck. I was talked into doing a "body contour" BIG MISTAKE!!! My "once" beautiful legs are now cobblestoned, saggy, and deformed looking-not to mention they look like that of an obese woman, rather than an average one. At the time of the procedure, I was approx 130 lbs and I am 5'6". Some 13 yrs. later I tried to "fix" the dents (at the same weight) and wound up with even more in the leg and butt area. I now have a hollow uneveness in my inner thighs to boot!!! I "used" to at least be able to wear shorts or skirts that covered the flaws of my outer thighs, but now I'm limited to capris only as the dents go all the way from my lower back to my knees!! My stomach was the only break through as a tummy tuck eliminated all the dents and loose skin. Now I deal with back fat though which I never had before-UGH!!! I am looking to try one last time to correct this problem. I'm not looking for "perfection" just a visible correction so that I can go out in shorts like a normal person in the summer. I'm fearful and not sure I even want to go through with it, but I'd be willing to hear about those newer procedures that only require a local anesthesia. I will ONLY consider the BEST and want to actually see people with lipo disasters that have had some success. Any suggestions???

I was wondering....did you do this to correct a previous lip gone bad?

No- this was my first- and most likely my last! not a big fan of the pain!

thanks for the information. my surgery is scheduled in 5/19 and am very nervous right now. I will definitely drink more water, cut back in salt consumption and have the Arnica gel handy.

How much swelling do you have? I had my lower abdomen and inner and outer thighs done on the 9th. of April. I have terrible bruising and swelling with lots of large lumps, so far I have not seen any improvement. comments?

I am now 9 days out. I had alot of pain yesterday from my garment feeling SO tight- I think because I drank alcohol for the first time on Thursday night (I had to not drink for 1 week before and 1 week after procedure) I think I really swelled alot- due to the alcohol and a few salty snacks. I too am still very swollen and can't see any improvement yet, except for maybe my very upper abs. My pubic area is VERY swollen by the end of the day. Ugh! I keep telling myself to be patient. How old are you? I am 48. Thighs haven't been too sore, but still pretty swollen.
