“Latisse well worth it -- i use off-label lumigan because it's cheaper”

Latisse: Worth it

Cost: $100
Pain: Painfree
Latisse satisfaction: Excellent5 Star Rating: Excellent
I recommend my Latisse provider: Name not provided
Why: My optometrist was a total jerk and refused to write me a prescription. Don't argue with them, just go see another doctor.

I have been dying to try Latisse ever since I heard about the Marini Age Intervention Eyelash conditioner. Then her offices got raided by the FDA for illegally using a prescription drug, bimatoprost, in an over-the-counter product, and I couldn't find anyplace to buy Marini's lash product.

Anyway, I had my doctor write me a prescription for off-label Lumigan. It costs a lot less. I use a soft retractable brush to apply it each night after I take off my makeup and wash my face. I have been using it for 2 weeks, and I am already seeing some improvement in my lash thickness. Since I reuse other applicators like eyeliner and lip gloss, I am not worried about contamination at all. I think it's fine to use a eyeliner brush, as long as it's dedicated to applying Lumigan only, and not used for anything else.

The main reason why I wanted an eyelash growth stimulator is because my lashes are stick-straight. Unless I curl them, my eyes look very tired. Although my lashes are already decently thick, long, and jet black, if they are longer it will be easier to curl them.  In another few weeks I will post my before/after pictures.

Updated on Apr 17, 2009:

Just a quick update. I have been using Lumigan (same thing as Latisse) for close to 7 weeks now. I still love it.

My lashes are getting fuller and longer. I have to admit that my right eyelashes are doing better than the ones on the left, even though I apply it evenly every night. Kinda sucks, but I just go light on the mascara on my right eye since they need less, and just use a little more on my left eye and they look pretty much even. Hey, they warned about

In another month or so, I'll post an "after" picture so folks can see the progress. I am moving to Alaska in a couple of weeks and my laptop just died...so hopefully I'll have a new setup when I get there. Things have been hectic to say the least. =P

BEFORE shot of what my uncurled, straight eyelashes look like. They are okay, but they could be much better.

Yes, the applicator brushes provided with Latisse are terrible. They are too coarse and thick to wipe evenly across the tender skin of the eyelid, right against the roots of your lashes. The rough bristles hold too much of the Latisse, so that very little actually gets on your lid, and if you press a little harder to increase surface contact, the Latisse runs out of the brush and into your eye. I use a fairly stiff eyeliner brush that came with Chanel cake eyeliner. It's perfect for the task, and I never get Latisse in my eyes any more.

Cool. Is that true that latisse cost around $125 and that's the monthly supply? Kind of expensive..:/

Hi, just to say that you can get the Lumigan at Alldaychemist (online) without a prescription. It costs about $12, but shipping is $24 worldwide(regardless of how much you order at any one time!). They have a wide range of other products so it may wellbe worth your while to place a larger order to justify the shipping. either that or share the cost of shipping with a friend or two. I'm in UK, and a friend in US made an order for herself and included my Lumigan on it. It will arrive soonish (I hope!).

i've been using latisse for 4 weeks and see no difference. i hope it's worth it, i'm wondering if it will work at all since so many comments say they notice a change after 4 weeks.

Yes, Inhousepharmacy is also good, with no prescription required. Their price (in sterling) is about £21.99 inclusive of shipping. However, for those in UK (which is where I am) goods can only be imported to a value of £18 - after which customs duties and vat enter the frame! Also, neither of these do Paypal - apparently because Paypal won't allow the selling of prescription drugs through its site... without prescriptions! That aside, if you're in UK, Alldaypharmacy's Lumigan comes in at about £8.60, which will get you clear of customs and vat! You just have to deal with the large shipping bill which is around £16 - and as far as I'm aware, customs duty and vat don't apply to the shipping. I may be wrong though, so please look it up yourself on HMS customs site. All I can tell you is that people on essentialdayspa ('Lumigan for eyelashes' thread) rate these 2 online chemists quite highly. Perhaps go there to read (about 11 pages of great info. IMO!). Hope this helps...

So anybody started to use Lumigan yet, and what are the results?

No suzg. One is in India (Alldaypharmacy) other in South Pacific (Inhousepharmacy). As I said, a US friend ordered mine as she was doing an order for herself and is sending it on to me in UK as 'gift'. She (along with all the others on the forum I recc. to you, called Essentialdayspa - search for 'lumigan for eyelash growth' thread) are in favour of both these online pharmacys and have used them (in some cases) on many occasions with no problem. They seem to have got good results with their bottles of Lumigan! Shipping is $24 worldwide from Alldaychemist regardless of amount ordered. For Inhousepharmacy, sterling is £21.95 inclusive of shipping, and I'll leave you to check out the dollar equivalent! I have to say that I have exchanged emails with Anuj at Alldaypharmacy a couple of times, and he seems a very pleasant, polite and kindly person. That's all I can really tell you ATM. You'll have to check out US customs for yourself, but my US friend has had no problem with customs as far as I know. Good luck. Mine may arrive in about a week, so I'll post here as I get under way with it!

I ordered the Lumigan from In House Pharmacy and received it in 1 week...no shipping cost either..just a flat $40 for the smaller size which lasts about 4 weeks (thats what the bottle says). i wanted to make sure it worked before buying the larger, more expensive bottle. its to early to see results..i've only used it for 4 days. Will keep posting

amandda.g, about the Q tips, that's what my friend reccomends using! So, I think I'll try it. Do they have less cotton wool on them than normal cotton buds? My cotton buds are quite bulky and would absorb far too much Lumigan I think!

FYI, according to the U.S. Customs website, it is illegal to import prescription drugs into the U.S., even those approved by the FDA for use in America. http://help.cbp.gov/cgi-bin/customs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=320
