After breast feeding two kids for 18 months each...

After breast feeding two kids for 18 months each my boobs were done. Before having kids I was fairly happy with my B+/C- cup breasts. What they lacked in size they made up for in shape and overall look -- perky, cute nips, etc. After breast feeding they lost some of their perkiness and nearly all of their size -- I was about a AA cup. My nipples looked saggy and wrinkled and when you touched or grabbed my breasts there wasn't much there just mostly a flap of skin.
I had several friends who had extremely bad implant experiences over the past decade -- one friend woke with her right breast completely deflated, another friend was given a "bear hug" by a male friend and her implant burst, another friend had two surgeries to relieve encapsulation, and still another had a "slow leak" that needed to be replaced. All of these issues resulted in pain and unexpected expenses and pretty much scared the hell out of me in terms of getting implants. So when I read about successes with fat transfer to breasts -- I was like \o/ "Hallelujah -- sign me up!".
So I read a lot of reviews online and watched a lot of videos and visited a ton of websites and the reviews were very mixed and very confusing. In the end, I realized that implants would give a more noticeable and drastic change and the changes with fat transfer would be more subtle -- and I decided that was enough for me and I started scheduling consultations.
One doc refused to consult after seeing my pics because he said I didn't have enough fat -- although he said he would consult me for implants which he recommended. (I was 5'8" and about 155 pounds -- not "fat" but I did have the mommy-belly-jelly-roll, a bit of a muffin top look to my waist from behind and pllleeeennnty of fat on my thighs. lol) All other docs (I consulted with 4) had no issues -- however, they all suggested implants as preferred over fat transfer for the best results, except for one.
Which is why I ended up choosing Dr. Accetta with the Accetta Institute of Cosmetic Surgery (AICS) because of his experience, knowledge and results. His staff was first rate from start to finish -- super sweet ladies who were helpful and easy to talk to, etc.
The morning of my appointment I flew into town and checked into the recommended hotel. The office called me twice to let me know morning appointments were taking longer and my surgery was delayed. Obviously this was a little nerve-wracking, but I dealt with it OK. I eventually took a cab to the surgery center, AICS had made arrangements for someone to drive me back to my hotel after the surgery and get me settled in, check up on me, etc.
Check in and payment was fast and easy then I went back and met with the doctor where we looked at photos and he made sure that I realized this was NOT going to achieve the results/look of implants -- most likely adding one cup size and more cleavage, but not the two cups I was hoping for. Next I went and took a Valium and headed into the gown/mark up stage. Dr. Accetta was very professional and had a great bedside manner, he's charming and funny and easy to talk to -- not at all like your typical doctor! lol
Next, I got into a gown, was put on a gurney, draped and I believe an IV was started -- all went very smoothly. Down to the OR, by now the Valium is kicking in and I'm feeling very relaxed and sleepy, but still a tad nervous. So prep was finally over, now came the real stuff -- time for the fat harvesting liposuction. I remember the lipo experience as being uncomfortable and at times moderately painful -- but not excruciatingly so. There is a lot of poking and scraping and it is generally a yucky experience, but one that I wouldn't hesitate to repeat. The wands are slid in and a numbing solution is injected as they go in -- there is an instant where you feel pain/discomfort, then it goes away. (Note - I have a high pain threshold/tolerance so... maybe that's why it wasn't so bad? Or maybe it's really not that bad. lol) The lipo on my flanks was probably the most painful both during the procedure and later healing. Inner thighs weren't too fun either -- stomach seemed to be the easiest. After the fat was harvested they put it through a couple of procedures to get the stem cells and most healthiest cells for survival, this seemed to take an extra 20 minutes or so. Next, the doc used needles to inject numbing solution into my breasts and nipples (NOT fun lol) and the fat was carefully re-injected into my breasts. I think the whole procedure took about 3.5 - 4 hours, we were all pretty exhausted when it was done.
The next day I made my way to the mirror to check out the work -- holy heck my boobs were magnificent. Unfortunately, I has been warned by the nurse that this was the swelling stage and much of what I saw would go away -- but I hoped to keep more than I lost. Had a follow up with the doc late that day and returned home via plane. Returned my rental car, walked through the airport, drove home -- I felt sore like I had just ran a marathon and I hadn't trained properly. But it was nothing more than I could handle. I think I took pain relievers for a day or two and that was it.
Over the coming weeks the hardest part was wearing the support garments and watching my boobs gradually decrease in size. :( The lipo healing is for the most part uncomfortable -- it feels like a moderate burn when you move the wrong way. Occasionally you'll have a sharp pain but really the worst was over by the end of the week -- at the 4 week mark it was pretty smooth sailing. My boobs were very sore for about a week, then for the next 3 weeks they itched intensely.
OK, here's the final deal with the fat transfer to the breasts: After the three month mark I had pretty much gone from an AA cup to a B+. Not bad in terms of measurement. I can also tell you, and my boyfriend agrees, that there is a lot more boob to grab. Like a big handful. There's also a significant difference in my cleavage (which Dr. Accetta had promised).
However, looking at my breasts there's just not a significant difference in the look. Don't get me wrong -- it's definitely improved from the look I had before = I no longer look like a 12 year old boy with saggy nipples. lol BUT, in all honestly I must admit that I think I would have been happier with the look of the right implants. Overall, I give my breast augmentation a grade of B-.
Also, when it comes to the lipo -- I think Dr. Accetta could have been a little more aggressive on my flanks. I am not at all happy with the look of my inner thighs -- honestly I was happier with them before because at least they were smooth and now they're lumpy and lopsided/uneven. My stomach is the worst area in terms of lipo results. After working out/staying active my whole life, I thought I would have a tight smooth, 6 pack type of stomach after lipo. Instead I have a fairly flat stomach with some noticeable lumps and bulges. :( I still have some loss skin as well -- but it has improved significantly since before my surgery. All of my scars where the tubes where inserted are still clearly visible at the 1 year mark. Overall I give my lipo grade a C+.
I must say that Dr. Accetta offered a free retouch on the lipo, and indicated that this is fairly common. I definitely would have taken him up on the retouch had I not needed to travel to do so.
Currently, I'm not really sure what I will do -- but I'm thinking once I pay these procedures off (hopefully next year) I will go ahead and bite the bullet and get implants and also get the lipo on my stomach fixed and maybe have someone get a little more aggressive on my flanks.
Here's what I think is the bottom line when it comes to fat transfer for breast augmentation -- if you're looking for a subtle change and you have a B cup larger you'll probably be happy with the procedure. If you're less than a B, find a GREAT surgeon and get implants because fat transfer is probably not going to give you the increase in size/look you want.
