Almost 5 mos post op

I am 24 years old, and I am a mom of three...

I am 24 years old, and I am a mom of three children. My oldest is six and my youngest will be four in two months. I love my children dearly and wouldn't trade them for the world, but the damage that they did to my body is upsetting. Because of this, I have been wanting a tummy tuck for years, well at least since my second child was born. I have a ton of stretch marks, but I have come to terms with those. They are the battle scars of motherhood, and I proudly wear them. The lose skin and puffiness in my abdomen is another story. Gaining 75lbs during pregnancy while on bed rest is not exactly what I had in mind when preparing for a baby. Now, even with diet and exercise, I cannot get the extras to go away. I weigh about 128lbs and I am 5'4" so I am within my ideal range for this type of procedure, but far from pre-baby weight. Before my consultations, my husband and I discussed breast augmentation, though I did not have my heart set on it. When we realized that funds were not an issue, I decided that I should combine the procedures for one recovery, and I am very happy with this decision. I am a bit apprehensive and continue to read everything and anything about "mommy makeovers" daily. I must admit that I am growing tired of looking at photographs, but I guess its better to know what you want than to be clueless.

So I am concerned about stretch marks with the BA....

So I am concerned about stretch marks with the BA. I know many surgeons have said that if you do not go too big that you should be fine and that stretch marks rarely occur. My thoughts differ on this though. My skin is extremely tight, in places other than my stomach obviously. I don't think that it will stretch to accommodate an implant without stretch marks. Has anyone had an experience with stretch marks? And if so, what was your skin like before surgery? I'm just going crazy. I don't want to get additional stretch marks as I managed to escape pregnancy without them on my breasts. With that being said, my breasts also did not increase in size at all with pregnancy either. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks ladies!

So I'm about a week out from my procedure. I am...

So I'm about a week out from my procedure. I am extremely happy that this is finally going to happen and I won't have to look at my baby belly EVER again. I am still concerned with the whole procedure and a bit taken with the fact that I will be under anesthesia for six hours or more. I have never made it through anesthesia without wicked vomiting, so I am really concerned that I am going to strain myself after surgery. I have told the doctor this, but they seem to think that they will have it under control. In my past surgeries, the doctors have tried adjusting the anesthesia dosage, giving me anti nausea medications, and even the little bands for my wrists. Nothing has calmed the storm, and I do mean violent storm. My other thoughts right now are regarding pain pumps. My surgeon offers pain pumps at an additional cost, and I am seriously considering this as an alternative to oral narcotics. My husband on the other hand believes that I should forgo the use of a pain pump primarily so I can gauge my body's reaction to the surgery and take it easier on myself. I have a history of getting back to my routine quickly. The day after my hysterectomy I was walking three miles and attempting to clean the house. I can't help it- if my husband doesn't clean (he cleans but doesn't always keep up at the speed my children rip it apart again), I need to do it. I'm not sure how I will talk him into letting me get a pain pump if I decide that I really want it. I am completely overwhelmed and a bit nervous. It seems like next week will be here before I know it. I hope I can continue to sleep. For all of you recovering from surgery, happy healing!

Surgery was Friday and it turned out great. I was...

Surgery was Friday and it turned out great. I was so sick and vomited for at least 24hours, but it gradually got better. I'm not really in any pain but I am sore. I sleep all the time but can navigate through the house when I'm awake. I have a slight pulling sensation but nothing major. I go back to the doctor on Friday and hopefully get my drain out. The doctor showed me how to "strip" my drain to prevent clots but I do not seem to have much come out of it. Does anyone have a good idea for aiding the discomfort of the binder? It in combination with my Percocet is making my horribly itchy and splotchy. The doctor said to take benadryl, but there's only so much you can take and I'm sure if this keeps up I'll turn into benadryl.

And on to my breasts. I got 350cc silicone implants under the muscle. They are really really sore, but they are manageable even without pain meds.

I had my drain removed today and it stung a bit...

I had my drain removed today and it stung a bit but felt odd, not pain like at all. I plan to decrease the remainder of my medication tomorrow so that I can go do something with my family. Maybe go see a movie, where I can sit and take it easy. Do any of you have advice on bra types after an augmentation- the cheap kind? I am hoping for ones that fasten in the front and that are no more than $20 so that I can toss them when they aren't needed. You ladies have been lovely!!! Thank you all and happy healing.

This whole entire process hasn't been as bad as I...

This whole entire process hasn't been as bad as I anticipated, even the pain and muscle tightening has been bearable. Perhaps I just have an amazing doctor and a kick ass husband, but I feel wonderful. My swelling is minimal unless I overdo it for the day and did I mention that I think I look amazing? LOL My implants are still sitting high, but I know with time they will drop. My only complaint in this process has been with the medications I was taking. Percocet made me terribly itchy so I switched to Vicodin, which didn't really help. The vicodin in combination with Valium helped wonderfully. It relaxed me enough so I could rest. Its the Transderm Scop patch for nausea that killed me. The original script gave me 3 patches, enough for nine days switching it out every three as directed. I figured I wouldn't need to replace it on day 3 because I felt better. I threw up that night so I replaced it- and the stuff made me loopy and I could not see straight but it helped with the nausea. Well, I removed my last patch yesterday and ended up with extreme sweats and vomiting again. Oh that stuff is wonderful and horrible at the same time. If I had to do it again though, I think I would pass on the patch because I was horribly ill after anesthesia anyways. I'm uploading a bikini pic for all of you that are interested in looking at results. It was 1 week post op and I am amazed at how little swelling I have. My surgeon is amazing (and I guess my body just was ready to get rid of the 2.5lbs of skin)!

Two weeks post op tomorrow and some of my steri...

Two weeks post op tomorrow and some of my steri strips have been coming off. I have three that came off in the center and I barely have a scar. Really, you cannot see any red- only where the skin meets like my body just pieced itself back together without a scar. I think I hit the jackpot with my surgeon! My only issues lately have been the pulling sensations at my hips and my appetite. I am either starved or not hungry at all to the point that I am nauseous. The pulling isn't awful and its very manageable. I haven't been on pain meds now for a few days but if I get a little sore I take a Tylenol. My breasts are sore but they are dropping decently for this far out from surgery. The implants are still hard, but a warm shower seems to help. I am a bit stiff in the mornings but once I get moving it is a great deal easier to manage the day. My binder is still uncomfortable and rides up causing pressure marks on my sides. I also feel like I am suffering a from a bit of insomnia or interrupted sleep schedule. For instance, I couldn't get to sleep last night until almost 2AM but I slept all the way until 10:15 when my husband came in to "make sure I was still alive." I have helped with some household chores like loading the dishwasher and folding laundry, but I'm worried for when my husband returns to work next week. I get tired from the most menial tasks, so hopefully the transition is easy. I will be adding more pictures once I upload them. I am so happy with my belly button... heck with everything! If there is anything specific you all want to know or want to see, let me know and I'll do my best to oblige. Happy healing to all!

16 days post op today. I was up cleaning the house...

16 days post op today. I was up cleaning the house for about an hour today. It seems my husband was in some dire need of help but too proud to ask. He has been doing such a wonderful job with everything lately. I am super grateful that I have such an amazing hubby! So I cleared some dishes from the dining room table, I swept up the floors, and even completed a load of laundry. Needless to say, I am exhausted! He goes back to work on Tuesday so I am prepared to put on my Wonder Woman outfit and go at this swinging with both fists! I'm not in any real pain unless I overdo it. BUT when I say real pain, I mean pain... not an ouch this hurts or oh that's horribly uncomfortable I'm spitting a stitch. I am still tired all the time, but I feel the more I get up and do things the better it gets. Gradually each day I am able to do more. I would be lying to you all if I said I was completely off of medication because I do take a Tylenol after cleaning like today so I'm not too sore and I am still taking Benadryl. The adhesive to keep my gauze on is making me break out and I'm itchy like crazy! For all of you who have yet to undergo surgery, please buy yourself some Benadryl before and save yourself or your family/friends the avoidable inconvenience. I sent my husband and three kids to the store at 11PM for more Benadryl because I was clawing myself in my sleep- I actually have a mark under my breast from my fingernails where I drew blood. I'm not 100% but I feel good considering my body just went through a loop about two weeks ago. Rest is a must! I nap daily- and by nap I mean mini-night times :oD like 4 hours if I take a Benadryl. All in all, its been a good experience. I am thoroughly pleased with my surgeon and the wonderful results I have this early in my recovery. I am uploading a couple more pictures if they will load. Enjoy and happy healing!

So today was my first day on my own- my husband...

So today was my first day on my own- my husband went back to work today and of course, my youngest son had major issues with his asthma this morning requiring a doctors appointment and two shots of steroids in each leg. Poor baby actually hid under the table at the doctor's office. I suppose I must have done too much because I had what I would call a bubble, a small section, of my scar burst open with a dark, really dark, blood. It rolled down my hip and scared my son. He got me a Band Aid and covered me up. I've never had anything like this and so far nothing has gone wrong. Its sore and I think I just did too much. I have a scheduled appointment with my surgeon on Thursday, so we will see if it is anything to be concerned about then. I would highly recommend having a full three weeks for others to recover. Come 3PM, after being on my feet for about 9 hours, I was exhausted. I took a nap with my son until my husband got home from work. I didn't even hear him come through the door. Now an hour later I am sitting in bed with my feet up asking myself why two extra strength Tylenol is not helping the burning sensation I have in my hip or the soreness in my breasts. My advice ladies- take it easy on yourself. I think I will call it an early night and take a sleep aid to ensure some sleep tonight :0( Happy healing!

I had a follow up this morning and everything...

I had a follow up this morning and everything looks good. I had a stitch coming out of my incision, the bubble I mentioned previously. He snipped it up and bandaged me, so I'm all better now. He gave me pain meds so that I can sleep through the night wtihout having to worry about a redo with Tylenol at 2AM and then never going back to bed because there's too much to get done around here. The best part... HE ALLOWS ME TO SWITCH TO SPANX!! Of course this is only if I can find one that fits like he wants it to, with enough compression but comfortable enough with my scar to make it an upgrade. I told him that whoever makes this binder should definitely stop because it is a horrible invention. Overall, I am so thrilled with my doctor. He is absolutely 100% amazing. He is such a talented surgeon and a very compassionate individual. I've really never met a doctor that had as much skill as he/she has compassion, and his staff is just amazing too. I could sit here and toot the horn all day, but I think I'm going to do some shopping later and I want to clean the house up a bit first. Happy healing ladies!

The week after my surgery my daughter was sick...

The week after my surgery my daughter was sick with a fever and vomiting. Last week was my trip to the doctors and my youngest son's asthma issues (and two shots :o( but he's ok). And now since Friday my oldest has been running a fever and throwing up to the point that he has lost a few pounds and cannot keep anything down. Well all would be just great in the world if my husband didn't happen to have an eye infection at this very moment giving him some difficulty with driving and a fuzzy eye. To boot, I've been feeling crappy, but I keep telling myself that lots of water will stave off whatever kind of cooties my family seems to have. I can only imagine how bad vomiting will hurt my belly, so no way do I want that! Good news is that I have been healing well. Nothing really more than same old same old. Every now and then I get twinges of pain close to my belly button, but generally the area is still numb. I still get tired after a long day, but instead of eight hours its now like ten. I have been able to cook and clean successfully though I do suffer a backache after the fact. I'm going to upload a few more photos just so you can see where my scar sits and the general outline of my form. I took these pictures after a day's worth of housework, so I am a bit swollen. Officially, I am 24 days post op :0) Happy healing ladies! Oh and I'm wearing VS hiphugger style panties in case your curious about what covers vs what doesn't.

Well it's been 17 days since my last post. All I...

Well it's been 17 days since my last post. All I can say is that life has been hectic. My poor son was sick for almost two weeks and was suffering from extreme exhaustion. He is still going to bed around 6 every night. Needless to say, I haven't had much time to take care of me. My husband, who is in the military, had his first "duty" day, and I ended up spliting the center of my incision a bit from doing too much. So, I had a little bit of leakage. I checked with my PS who assured me (at 9PM on a Sunday evening mind you) that I would be ok- but ok is a relative term. I feel like I have been going crazy! I have managed to keep up with housework, though the bending and twisting to load the dishwasher and fold the laundry can catch up with me at times. I do still swell later in the evening, and it does hurt. It's not a horrible hurt but more like uncomfortable ouch hurt. I am still numb in the vast majority of my abdomen and the lower pole of my breasts. I can feel the nerves coming back as I have stinging sensations and itchy sensations often. I am now wearing Spanx all the time instead of the binder, though I do on occassion wear my binder in addition to my medium compression Spanx. I have been sleeping better and can sleep on my sides. I forgot to mention that I made time for a massage. It hurt so bad from not going routinely like I had previously, but it really loosened me up. I'm not sure if the massage did it, but I have noticed less of a bump in my side from the lipo. I had a bit of a dent and it was really hard. It still is firm, but but I am able to massage it without pain now. Laying on my chest was, uh, different. I needed a pillow to put between my breasts because I felt like I was smooshing them into the table! I've never had that problem before. My breasts still haven't dropped completely, but I am sure they will as this takes time. I have noticed now that I am very happy with the way my body looks and am once again excited to go shopping! Hopefully one of these days I can go get fitted for a bra. I have been putting this off, but I am extremely impatient. When did you all get fitted post BA? Happy healing ladies! I'll post pictures tomorrow :0)

Alright ladies, I am uploading some new pictures...

Alright ladies, I am uploading some new pictures of my tummy. The ones that are going up were just taken, and its the end of the day so I have some mild swelling. I have been going most of the day without a binder and without Spanx now. I have been doing heavier cleaning like mopping and scrubbing the floors and even lifting my 32lb son. I still have pains, but it isn't completely excruciating. My body just speaks loudly when I do too much :0) I will have to get my husband to take a good picture of my breasts so I can post up with their progress. I got measured for a bra and was shocked when the lady told me I measured at a 32DD. I lost two inches in my ribcage since surgery- and most of my tops and fitted dress do not fit. I need to find a good seamstress to fix them. I have a post op appointment with my PS tomorrow and cannot wait! I am very very happy with the way things are healing, but I do have a question about a hard lump and a dent on my left side. I'm not sure if this will go away. It feels worse when I swell, so I'm hoping its just swelling and not a complication or an issue from the lipo of the flank area. I haven't been able to find much on lipo dents to read, so does anyone have some stories with this issue? I will post again tomorrow after my visit. Happy healing!

So I'm just shy of five months post op now. I am...

So I'm just shy of five months post op now. I am doing extremely well, and I must admit that my breasts and belly look fabulous! My stomach is still somewhat numb down the midline, but I haven't had any other problems. My belly still tingles a bit when I workout, but my PS has assured me that my nerves are just going back to normal. I'm now wearing a 32DDD bra, which I find crazy. I went back to my normal routine around 3 months post op and haven't struggled to keep up since. Although I was sick for almost two months with upper respiratory problems so I didn't exercise much during that time. My scars are fading nicely as well. I don't even feel like I went through surgery. Everything feels normal. I'll attach a photo so you all can see my progress.

About 16mos Post-Op

Ok so the picture I am posting is a bit blurry, but its my results from about 16mos post op. I am thrilled! My TT scar looks amazing and so do my breast incisions, though I wish those would fade a little quicker. And I still love my doctor. Overall, this process has been wonderful! (except for the swelling)
Oahu Island Plastic Surgeon

I started my search by looking at certified doctors. I had four consults scheduled, but as soon as I met Dr. Healy and his staff, there was no need to attend the others. Cost didn't matter because the man is just plain brilliant and extremely caring. He answered all of my questions, called me off hours, saw me in the office on Saturdays, and even sent me home with flowers. His staff is exactly what I would expect from a wonderful facility because they really do exceed expectations. There aren't enough words to describe how happy I am because someone as skilled as Dr. Healy was able to help me and share this journey along with me. He was always professional and realistic. If anyone is looking for a surgeon, please check into his office. They are truly wonderful people and their skills are incredible.

Laying on my stomach wasn't all that bad. It didn't really hurt when I laid down without a towel between my breasts but it wasn't exactly comfortable. I felt like I was smooshing them. I asked the MT for a pillow or something and she brought me a towel. She was the one who suggested that I lay it between my breasts instead of above or below it. I followed her advice and didn't have any issues. No pain whatsoever!

I was 6 weeks post op yesterday and had my 6 week post op appt today. To answer your question about a bra fitting, I did that around 4 weeks. I went to Victoria's Secret and was told I'm a 32DDD/34D - although my PS said Victoria's Secret exaggerates sizes so I am probably a C in other brands.

I am also numb in my abdomen (such a strange sensation when my 10 month old leans against it!) and I know what you mean about the nerves regenerating and that "lighting" type pain. Ouch ouch! I am sore by the end of the day, mostly in my abdomen on the left side. It really feels like a pulled muscle. You mentioned you had a massage. Did you lay on your stomach? I am scared to lay on my stomach just yet. How was that?

WOW! I can NOT get over how tiny your waist is! You look GREAT! Does it feel tight - I know everyone has a hard time standing etc. Also - sorry if this is personal (which it is) - did the doctor say how long you have to wait to have sex?
  • Reply
Yes- the paperwork that I got from the doctor said 1 week- however, I do not think that 1 week is enough time. My husband and I resumed having sex after about a week and a half. I was okay and it wasn't uncomfortable except for a slight pulling sensation trying to figure out what to do to make my incision more comfortable with exertion. I didn't split a stitch and I wasn't sore, so I think we did okay :0) It is tight to stand straight up but only in my upper abdomen. I haven't been able to upload the new pictures that I have been trying to load. I have ones of my scar, my belly button, my breasts, etc. I barely have a scar from my TT incision. Its amazing! When I finally figure this issue out I will post a ton of pictures. I don't mind questions, so ask away. You can even private message me if you have any other questions, even if they are personal.

hello sorry so unconfortable with binder. I used a thing called Trendy Top. They sell it at wallgreens in a two pack. I think it was $19. They are similar to a cotton tube top, but for your tummy.. Try them out makes a big difference

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into it and hopefully get a trendy top asap. When I went to see my PS he said it looked like I was breaking out from the binder and to use benadryl even when I'm not on the percocet. Did I mention that I LOVE my ps?? He is amazing and is always worried about my comfort.
