I dont know why i waited so long, my first visit...

i dont know why i waited so long, my first visit to dr peter callan was in 2010 to see if i was right for a reduction, i was and very excited even at that stage. i then had to get hospital cover to cover the hospital bill for surgery. i went back in septmember of 2011( 12 months of hospital cover waiting time). i had to lose weight to be at a healthy BMI of 28 for the procedure. i went back in december and had lost 10 kgs, but more was needed. went back for a visit in march and i had got my weight to 90kgs which was prefect BMI for my height. so we booked in surgery for may. SO EXCITING... went back two weeks before the surgery date(which was 3rd may 2012) to go through all the last minute questions and prodecure details, costs and payment. I got a phone call from the hospital the day before to inform me of the time of surgery, which was 9am.
so i had showered, but of course couldnt eat anything before surgery. At the hospitla at 8:47 am, waiting in the waiting room, before getting a gown and pressure stockings, and in my hand was my surgical bra( which did up at the front, to make things easier) then went into the doctors office to get all marked up by Dr Callan for surgery. He was for focused wanted to make sure everything was right and going to be in position( as one boob was lop sided). i walked into the anesthetic room that leads into the suregery room. had a chat to the nurse and the anesthetist gave me the drugs. and i went to sleep. the next thing i knew i was in recovery at 12:30 pm being looked after, waiting to be taken to my room. Everything was done, my boobs were smaller and i could see my nipples. by 1:30 pm i was in my room. My number was 333 (which i thought was funny cause they look like boobs :) i slept for a little longer. The nurse kept coming in to check my dressing and nipple sensation( to see if blood was circulating to my nipples). i felt fantastic. i also had a circulation machine on my legs, to much sure i didnt get any blood colts. When Dr Callan came in (I think it was 3:30 pm) to check up on me i was still a little drowsy, but couldnt believe how happy he was with it. He said i was probably right to go home if i wanted to... by 7pm i was ready to go home, i had been up to the toilet by myself and had a sandwich for tea. i rang my mum and sister to came get me. my brother helped me to the car ( just in case), i would suggest that the car you go home in has the best suspention in the world, his car didnt). on the way home my sister stopped at the pharmacy to get the scripts i was given for strong pain relief and day releif. i felt fantastic and wanted to sleep in my own bed. you do had to sleep slightly sitting up so i had two or three pillows and one on the side. that night iwas setting my alarm every four hours to take some more pain releif. the next day i was up, had breakfast and realised how exhausted i was so spend most of the day in bed, probably slept through the pain, because i was never in any pain.
By monday 7th may it was the day to take the staples out and a post op appointment. Dr Callan was very excited for me, after all this time i had my reduction at the age of 27. everything looked really good, the staples were removed and fresh bandage tape was applied. i had some to take home as i was to change them every 7 days ( more or less if i though it needed it). Couldnt believe after all the stories ive heard about pain and discomfort, i wasnt in any. Although no one else had Dr Peter Callan. I DID! then next time i saw Dr Callan was 3 months after surgery in august. I was revised to see how i was healing, which he couldnt beleive how well i was healing. i couldnt believe these were my boobs. my sag, no back pain. no indentations in my shoulders. i went shopping for new bras, ones from the normal stores. my work collagues got me a voucher to buy some brand new bras, in the right size. oh i was a 18G, BUT NOW I WAS A 14 DD. I think i boought one in every colour. And donated my bras to africa. i also went shopping for clothes, as they also didnt fit me anymore. im now 12 months on from surgery and still cant believe these are my boobs and that i waited to so long to talk to someone and the idea of a reduction. if you are thinknig about having this surgery. i would say DO IT. You would not regret it, you will only be so much more happier and confident in your self.
i would do it again, if i ever needed to. In a heart beat.
