Tummy Tuck and Lipo, Necrosis, Seroma and Wound Opening - Dominican Republic

I had a full tummy tuck and lipo on May 4, 2010. I developed a seroma and wound opening after 15 days and necrosis was there on 2-3 days but the PC never told me that, she said I was burned with the girdle..yeah right! now i have demarcated necrosis, my insurance won't pay for treatment and my PC completely avoids the subject by talking to me about other things. I have a hole opening where I drain constantly and have no idea how to care for it. I'm just using pads. I'm very miserable and have no idea what to do or how long I will be this way. I'm also diabetic and my sugars have been very well controlled.

I've been packing my cookie monster mouth twice a day. The first time i thought I was going to die, and cried for a little bit while shaken, but I had to be strong and say well ain't no body going to packk it for me and I need to heal so here i go..I did it and now i feel more comfortable. I tell you I never seen anything like that before...I'm being positive and just praying that I recover well. This is a very scary experience I do not wish upon anyone. The one thing that keeps me going is the fact that I actually look very good and lost 25 pounds which had made my diabetes easier to control...so is not that bad after all...

Althought I went thru a hell of a healing process and I have a pretty ugly scar...I need a revision...i still think it was worth it and I would do it all over...perhaps I would of done a few things differently...however it was worth it...I rather have that scar than the ugly belly I had...I feel so much more confident and beautiful...

Almost a year and I feel pretty good. Went for a consultation for revision and decided not to fix it, since the process was going to be long and in three steps (3 surgeries) I do not want to risk myself again my new PS says I could have necrosis again, so I decided not to go thru...I may get a decent tattoo around the scar, not on it of course, i feel very confortable with my self, i look very good and i'm healthy. Now i'm just waiting for my breast reduction, cause they are too heavy for my small body. lol

scar covered with tattoo

Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon

she did not inform and educate me about necrosis she had never had other problems with other patients, but I felt cheated on the limited information. She was not at fault for my complications. Dr. Bello was very sweet and professional. She does a wonderful work. I do not intend to degrade her work. I look great except for the no so pleasant scar.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Why is necrosis is that a problem? How can that be AVOIDED ????

Necrosis can occur when too much tension is used when pulling down the skin flap during the tummy tuck procedure resulting in decreased blood supply to the area, which I turn results in skin death, also known as necrosis.

You said she basically ignored your initial problem. I definitely would not recommend her to anyone. Thank god you ended up being your own good dr. I'm glad you healed and are feeling well.

Hi good morning. I would like to know your name to confirm if you were my patient because sometimes there are people who put comments bad intensionadas with the sole intension of harming the image of a doctor sometimes for no reason. I want you to know that no doctor wants the work done with so much love and commitment, like me, want anything to happen to any patient. Diabetic patients, as well as smoking and hypertensive patients are at high risk to skin necrosis and especially diabetics, that is something that is explained to all patients and is the reason why many doctors do not like to operate diabetic , but as you yourself mention the same disease a lot better after having a surgery and if you take a life of exercise and healthy eating can make your blood sugar levels remain low. When necrosis occurs after a tummy tuck so there is that wait out the process and corrected the area and your surgery is impeccable, in fact I've managed very many patients of other physicians who have had problems after their tummy necrosis. If you really were my patient please contact me and I am gladly at your disposal to help you correct the area. My email is drabellop@gmailcom telephone 1-809-481-2888

Dr. Bello that's truly nice of you to come on here and try to salvage your reputation if she was a patient of yours hopefully you and her can work things out. But after reading her story I did have my Tummy Tuck here in the states no issues of any kind being a diabetic Thank God for that!!! But I'm am stilling thinking about having some extra work done in the DR . I wish there was some pictures or more feed back on your work, that would be so helpful nothing like seeing and hearing the testimonies of others beyond your site.

I was your patient and i have no intentions of degrading your work as i know you are very good at what you do. I wish things would of turned out differently but it was a terrible experience once i got back home. I don't remember hearing the word necrosis during counseling . I was disappointed that you saw that black spot and felt like it was ignored. I do have a very ugly scar but i have learn to love it since my body looks great. My surgery was on may 4 2010. The care from mrs. Lourdes was excellent and the food to die for among other things. I refuse to get it fix because of the risk of developing necrosis all over again. And also because i don't have the financial means to pay for it. But no regrets. If you ask me it was all worth it.

I work with a woman who's family members have had work done by her... She said she did a great job, she went to get hers done but the dr said her blood was low and wouldn't perform on her... I guess that says something for integrity...

Is been 4 weeks+ since I had the first debridment, I had 3 more aafter that and today I started the wound vac, my insurance only covered 3 weeks but hey that is good enough to speed up the process, after the last debrid the wond started to shrink, so it ain't as huge as it was at the beginning. I feel like amillion bucks except i'm not able to party too much carrying this vac...but i can't wait to heal!!

skin necrosis after a tummy tuck usually occur more frequently in patients smokers, diabetic, hypertensive and elderly women. It can also ocurir in healthy patients after being operated that not follow the recommendations of their doctors or patient that did ok but showing seroma that is not adequately drained. Whatever the cause is when there is skin necrosis the important thing is to make cures and debridement necessary to heal the area. This process usually takes its time but have to wealing to occur. After this is done the reconstruction of the area. This is a process that any physician or patient wishes to happend but unfortunately when it happens it happens and the most important thing is to have the patience to resolve the situation. The patients who come to the country and then return abroad before long my biggest recommendation is to go where your doctor may advise you to give your track after surgery. As you regreses to your countries should continue your care since carelessness leads them to skin necrosis. Always contact your doctors and do what your doctors say to avoid major complications. After you heal it is necessary to to the reconstruccion of the area. The way I do it your tummy tuck will look like if anything happend. Try always to do the reconstruction with your doctor. I have done a lot of reconstruccion of patients from others doctors and let me tell you with no dout you will be very happy with the result after all you went thru.

i also had same problem with you and this is due to the tight binders that they instruct us to use after the operation. i discovered mine 6 days post-op. i just removed all these constrictive binders. wear loose clothing, dress the wound 2-3x a day using peroxide, betadine, place bactroban ointment and antibiotics like clindamycin 300 mgs 2x a day. after one week my wound has healed. i still dont use the binders again because it will retard the healing process. also one more thing i'm also a doctor and i kniw what to do. i really feel sorry for you because it's a very scary experience.. take care

well I was debrided today and I have to tell you that this is not cool at all. Now I have a humongous hole...and not sure if I will loose my belly button yet, hoping I don't. My new PS said that my PS did not do anything wrong that I'm daibetic and that was a complication related to it. It would of happen even if I did it here. However, seen her sooner would have been better. I still don't know if insurance is going to pay but IDC I got enough supplies from the hospital and it covered my prescriptions. I have no infection and that is good. I have to see her every week, after healing which is going to take months and months she will see how she could help reconstruct. IDK how i feel today...but I have to be positive...
