After losing a significant amount of weight and not having very good skin I ended up with a loose tummy. I had thought about having the procedure for years, and decided that before my wedding I wanted to do it since I am still relatively young. I met with Dr Byrd, and multiple staff members who seemed very knowledgeable and helpful, and they spent almost 2 hours with me answering questions and explaining the process and procedure. I knew that if I didn't do it soon I would never do it and would live with it forever, so I finally decided to do it.
I had never had surgery before so I was extremely nervous leading up to the surgery, still, it may have helped never have had surgery before, because the first week and a half specifically were very very tough for me. I do not like taking pills and especially narcotics, but you have to because the pain is so severe. I did not like that, and I felt very helpless and was unsure if it was worth the trouble. I just wanted to go back to the way I was in order to sleep normally and not be in pain. Bending over was near impossible, going to the store was impossible, there is no way you can drive a vehicle, you don't ever want to get off the couch, the drains are a nightmare just bc you know they're there. As a very active person, it was depressing.
After that 1st week and a half I began to feel much better, however the swelling got much worse. After about week 4 the swelling is still there, but it's better and I feel a lot more normal. I am driving, I can bend over if I have to, I can get up easily, sleep on my sides, do chores around the house, and go on long walks.
During this time Dr Byrd and staff continuously communicated to make sure I was ok, and I was able to call/text the lead nurse during the weekend when I had questions and concerns. The hotel nurses were excellent and it's hard to believe there are people that will take care of patients like that. The anesthesiologist was excellent, and really made me feel at ease right before the procedure.
The follow-up appointments continue to give me confidence and I am beginning to enjoy the results of the procedure.
If anybody asked me if they should have the same procedure, I would tell them to be prepared for a very intense, uncomfortable and sometimes unbearable 1 - 3 weeks, and if they can handle that then it is worth it, but it is very hard and you cannot be a weak person and have this procedure.
