I am seven days post-op of a tummy tuck with lipo. I was an unlikely candidate due to my height & weight. (5'6 @ 283lbs) wow...I know that is a lot. I have tried for the last nine years since my last child of three to get my "body" back but only continued to gain. I consulted with a plastic surgeon five years ago about a possible TT but was frightened @ the thought. I tried for another five years to attack this weight on my own. One day I realized that I like being "thick" I just wanted my mid-section to be flat again.

I am so glad I went through it! I saw my body 3 days post-op & couldn't believe it. The surgeon told me that I wouldn't have perfect results because of my size but I tell you...I am still swollen & I have come down 10 inches in my waist already, he took out 15lbs of fat and I have no bruising, very minimal pain & looking great already!

I went to my follow-up yesterday & he showed me my before photos & that looked like a stranger to me...lol! I am loving it and can't wait for the months to pass so I can see the final results! Thank you God!

Congrats on your success!!!! You look amazing!!! I want a TT so bad. I am 24, with one baby girl. I have NEVER, EVER had a flat tummy, and that is my MOST insecure area. I have done tons of research. I am very scared the dr will tell me to lose more weight before he/she will do it. Losing weight is so hard for me. I am 5'3 and 228. I am thick..haha! Big boned....I have curves, and hips...and of course my belly... I honestly feel like a TT would motivate me to get healthier. I do exercise atleast 3x a week or more, but as you know its just hard to lose. Your story is very inspirational. Thanks so much for sharing it!

Your surgery went great I plan on having mines soon once i lose more weight im 5"6" and currently weigh 218 lbs after seeing your story along with pictures im considering doing it as soon as possible. In african american woman I think the tummy tucks are truly beneficial especially after having kids. It appears your body respondeed well no keloids minimum scarring any suggestions you would want to share?

Girl, be thick and proud!!! I've NEVER had a flat tummy either. If you want to have more kids then wait. If not, DO IT! You will be so happy you did. Confidence is the key to happiness!

Congrats on your successful surgery! I too am a thick black woman and while I appreciate my curves, I definitely want to get rid of my stomach. Your doctor did a great job. Were there any risks with you being @ the weight you were? How was your recovery? 7 days after you look like you're standing straight up which is awesome considering it was hip-to-hip (or so it seems). Keep updating with your progress reports!

Thank you dear! Oh yes, it was hip to hip...I am on Day 11 now & my suture tape is beginning to come off. When I looked close with a mirror, I can barely see a scar. It looks like a thin long scratch. (Great!!!) I am standing up pretty straight and I am so happy with the initial results that I am walking 1 mile per day with a DVD I bought from Wal-Mart called "walk @ home." I will post those before pics before the week is out. I am in Law school so I am always busy on the computer doing my homework!

I forgot to address your question about any risks. I didn't have any because I have no health issues, no high blood pressure, etc. I do not smoke, drink, etc & never have. It was just more of me but Dr. P took care of that! Yes, ye he did! Will keep you posted!

How much weight did you lose with your surgery overall? It is so refreshing to see you another black woman who likes being thick (I'm 5'1 , 190) just wants to get rid of the stomach. They don't know, black folks love meat, we appreciate having extra lol.

Girl look good! love the positive energy. I am scared like you were. I want to have mine done in June when I will be off for six weeks. Many say that it is that painful and you will need that time to heal. What was your experience as far as pain. You look as if your standing up straight. You look really good for 2 weeks. did you use general anesthesia?
User Avatar
October 2, 2010
I just made two weeks today, the photos you see above were @ 1 week. I used local anesthesia. don't remeber a thing other than them starting the IV. My Doc said I sang & hummed gospel hymns out loud the entire 3 1/2 hours but I had no knowledge of any of that. Keep mr informed of your status & stay tuned for more of mine. Be Blessed!
October 3, 2010
wow thats great because I wasn't sure about local anesthesia. some dr's on this sight say that it does'nt produce the same results as general. they say that general is better. did your dr give you a choice or explain why he would use local?
User Avatar
October 6, 2010
My Doc didn't give me a choice on the anesthesia, he only explained the difference. The local one is like you are in a deep sleep, the general one is like you are in a coma.
October 7, 2010
wow! do you think that the anesthesia makes a difference in the recovery process.

I am not sure, I just know that my recovery has been going quite well. I went in skeptical but if I had to do it again, I would run to the op table in a heartbeat. No regrets!
October 8, 2010
thanks, I'll do some research on that. will you post recent pictures with the scar showing? I would love to see how thats coming along.

Hello, I am so glad to see another women of color on here. I am getting a tummy tuck and I was told to loose the weight 1st. I started out 225lbs.. now I'm down to 160.. I'm more worried about the scar.. I know there will be a scar ,has your scar lightened up? DId it keloid?
User Avatar
October 6, 2010
All I want to know is how you went from 225 to 160. Losing weight became the hardest task in my life that I have been unable to conquer. You did great!!! (Already) Do you really need the tuck now??? As I states in my initial review, I was an unlikely candidate due to my weight but as the Lord would have it, I came out of surgery looking wonderful & feelinf 10x's better than I did going in!!! You should have no worries. I am now on Day 18 and my scar is healing fine. My skin did not keloid at all. In my prior research (taking precautions in case i did keloid) I found that Scarguard & Mederma would be the best products to use to shrink &n fade the scar (old & new). Keep me posted...When is your surgery scheduled?
