At 5'9" and 128 lbs, people would never guess I needed a tummy tuck. As I'm sure many of you can relate, after my 2 beautiful, and big babies at 9 lbs 10 oz, my stomach muscles and skin paid the price. I had an umbilical hernia repaired 2 years ago that came back due to the separating of my abdominal muscles. I have ab muscles, but they we're covered by loose skin that I couldn't resist literally touching and "playing" with every day. It just felt and looked so strange. I was self conscious to be in a two piece swimsuit, and even being inyimate with my husband because this skin just hung. I hated it, but was really aprehensive to go through the pain and live with a hip to hip scar foer the rest of my life. I even tried a procedure called "body tight" as an alternative way to try and tighten the skin by heating it up under the skin. It was not fda approved yet, But going through the trials and I was one of them. While it did get rid of some fat,, it did not produce tightening resilts for me. It actually evem left some strange horizontal skin creases. After exhausting my options, I concluded that I would only be happy with going through with the tummy tuck. My surgeon was wonderful, and tried to give me very clear expectations for where the scars would appear. Of course, having the scar as low as possible was extremely important. However, due to my long torso and limited amount of loose skin above the belly button, I would need a vertical floating scar as well. I can't tell you how important it is to bring clothing that you want to be able to wear after the procedure. This was really helpful in guiding my surgeon on what I would be happy with. I am now 3 days post op and my plastic surgeon did an awesome job. The lower scar was extremely low and did not even have to go all the way up to my hip. I was so happy that it is shorter and lower than I even expected! The vertical scar is about 1 1/2" and I am comfortable with that as well. I am really sore, but as long as I keep upnwith the pain pills it is manageable. I am really excited to see the final results with swelling gone, but I can already tell that my skin is smooth and that I now have a waist! I will post after pics once these drains are out.
