So I opted for the Invisalign treatment. I am a thirty year old female and I just got my first tray about an hour ago! I have a series of 51 trays to look forward to (so almost 2 years!). My mouth is very small so crowding is an issue.
Not going to lie, they're pretty painful, at the moment but I am hopeful that this will improve soon! Only time will tell...

I start mines in two weeks! I am so nervous and scared. I am 33, they told me I will have 24 trays, so roughly about one year. Hope we can stay in touch on this forum! I have crowding on my lower and an overbite.

I was, too. But you got to keep thinking about the end result - it's the only way we'll make it through! It'll be worth it in the end... I hope!! :) Let's try! Like garland989 said, misery loves company lol

I definitely will follow yours, too! I wanted to keep a record of my journey, as well. I think then in the end it will be easier to see the progress and how far we've come!

I get my first tray tomorrow! And I am also looking at 2 years! We shall be on this journey together! :). Misery loves company!

Haha, yes it does! Good luck with your first one! The pain has subsided a fair bit already so I feel a lot better today! But still....2 years of this? Sheesh!

The one thing to remember is that, it gets better! If you read my day 1 review you'll see that my first three days were not nice, but here I am over 1 month later and I'm doing okay. I still have bad days (migraines from attachments) but I'm coping extremely well. Stick with us on here. We're all very nice and very supportive :) Just think: in year or two from now, you will have the perfect smile and it will all be worth it! Good luck, welcome to our little community, and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks Angeleyz. I'm about two weeks in - it has gotten better but it's still pretty uncomfortable. Hopefully, this will continue to improve because I have a loooong way to go yet!

I did Invisalign and it worked out well. One tip between tray changes is to take an Advil and swap the tray before bedtime. I usually fell asleep and didn't notice the discomfort with an initial tray change

Did your initial trays hurt more than the others? Some people have told me that the first few tend to be the worst and then it eases up. I hope that's true because it still hurts a fair bit!

UPDATED FROM triciajones
15 days post

The agony of week 2

triciajones
I only plan on posting when I get new trays in but I wanted to throw this update in here because of the ordeal I have been having in the last week or so! About 3 days after I got my initial trays, I received a phone call stating that they had made a mistake and they were actually supposed to extract two teeth (to make room for the other teeth to move correctly) BEFORE they gave me the trays. I was told to continue to wear them, anyways and they made an appointment to have those teeth removed.

Day 6: Extraction day. Today wasn't too bad but I was also under the influence of a LOT of novacaine so I really didn't feel much of anything.

Day 7: Agony.

Day 8: The trays aggravated the holes where the teeth had been removed and were all of a sudden cutting up my mouth.

Day 9: Between the pain of the trays and the pain of the pulled teeth, I could barely stand it. The painkillers they gave me offered no relief! If that wasn't bad enough, I developed ulcers all over my gums at the sites of the pulled teeth where the trays met the gums. UGH.

Day 10: Couldn't take it anymore, so I ended up taking my trays out to allow the sockets and ulcers to heal without aggravation.

Days 11 - 12: Still had a lot of pain but the ulcers had pretty much healed and the spots where the teeth were pulled are doing a lot better so I put the trays back in.

Days 13 - now: Still living on ibuprofen but it's a lot better than it has been. These past couple of weeks have been rough, to say the least, but there is light at the end of the tunnel... here's hoping it's uphill from here?

So if you have to have teeth removed for your trays, make sure they do it at the correct time so you don't go through this horrendous pain on top of the normal Invisalign pain!! You won't regret it!

That is really irresponsible of them to do it after you started your treatment. I am so sorry you had to go through that kind of pain. I hope you feel better soon! I extracted my teeth first (long story, but will explain when I start posting) so that the treatment would go smoother.

You poor thing, I really feel for you and agree with Myamazak38 in that it was really irresponsible of your ortho to do this after you started. Glad you decided to take the trays out until more comfortable. I wish you luck for the rest of your journey - I guess if you can get through this you will probably sail through the rest. Hope so! Thanks for sharing.

Now that a little time has passed, has it gotten better/easier?
