I am 38 years old. I have 2 boys, 11 and 15. I am 5'2" and currently weigh 171 lbs and trying to lose more. After many years, I have finally made plans to get a tummy tuck and lipo. After a lot of research, I choose Dr. Walkiris Robles. I will be having my surgery in April 2013. I am a mixed bag of emotions. But am confident that all will go well. Before booking my flight, I got the CBC blood test and my hemoglobin level is 13.4! So its official, I will finally have my surgery that I have wanted for so long. I am writing about my experience to help other women who are contemplating have surgery.

Trying to understand how this Realself works....

Trying to understand how this Realself works. Don't like that after making the initial review, you can't edit and have to wait 2 days for it to post. Well, I have been in contact with Laura Castro. You definitely have better communication with her via text. I asked her to find a Recovery House where both me and my husband can stay and she said it wasn't a problem. Went to the thrift store to buy some old clothes that I will use after the surgery. No sense in buying new clothes that will only be used once or twice and probably have to be thrown out. I am nervous and excited at the same time. Can't wait for the time to come. Just want to get the recovery over with. I know it will be hard staying away from my sons for 14 days. It will be the first time being away from them for so long. But now they are big and pretty independent.

I have been reading the posts from previous patients and have found them to be so helpful and informative. I specifically requested to be placed in Virginia's RH after all the great reviews. I am waiting for Laura to send a final confirmation. I am so excited and just can't wait for the time to come. I look so forward to being able to wear clothes and not be self conscience about my stomach sticking out....

Well, I have about 1 1/2 weeks to go before flying out to DR for my surgery. As time gets closer, I get more nervous and anxious about the surgery. Thinking and worrying about the decision I have made. Its one thing to want surgery, but another thing to actually plan it and set a date for it. I worry about my children should something go wrong and I start doubting my decision. Oh, I just can't wait for the time to come and get it done and over with......

7 more days to go for my surgery..... Bought the last few things that I needed for this trip. So just counting down the last few days til I depart for DR on Monday. I hope and pray all goes well with the surgery and that the recuperation isn't as difficult as it has been for other ladies. :)

I am 2 days post-op. This surgery is no joke. A lot of pain and discomfort. I regret doing it. But it's done. Surgery went well. And staying at Virginia's recovery house. She is great. Patient and attentive. The incision looks good. So thankful my husband came along. I don't know what I would have done without him. Ladies, make sure you bring someone because you'll need the help and support.

Today I am 3 days post opt. I feel a lot better today. I was able to walk further. I saw my stomach and it was amazing. Completely flat. I'm still swollen all over. But its part of the process. Now I am feeling happy about this surgery. Virginia is a charm and am grateful I came here. She's very attentive and patient. :-)

Today I'm 4 days post opt. Felt very drained and tired so I napped a lot. My back is killing me from walking hunched over. Virginia is awesome. I feel very comfortable here.

Today I am 6 days post opt. I'm feeling a little stronger today. Stomach feels very tight. My legs are very swollen.

Today I am 6 days post opt. I'm feeling a little...

Today I am 6 days post opt. I'm feeling a little stronger but the swelling on my legs and thighs are unbelievable. My legs look like elephant legs. The doctor prescribed medication to alleviate the swelling. I hope they work. I'm supposed to go home on Friday and I hope the swelling is not that bad as it is now. The incesion is healing wonderfully.

Today I am 1 week post opt. I am feeling a little...

Today I am 1 week post opt. I am feeling a little better today. They gave me an injection for the swelling in my legs. It seems to have helped a bit. Still walking hunched over but it will be like that for a while. Very grateful that I am staying at Virginia's house because she takes really good care of the patients.

Today I am 8 days post opt. I am feeling stronger...

Today I am 8 days post opt. I am feeling stronger as each day goes. The swelling on my legs have gone down a little bit. My thighs are still enormous but know it will go down in time. Just drinking lots of fluids and eating protein.

I thought I'd be more specific about my surgery.
When I arrived in the airport, we had to wait about 1 hour for the driver to pick us up. Once the driver came, he took us straight to the clinic to meet Laura, Raquel, and Dr. Robles. I did all the tests that was needed. I have to say that everyone wore gloves. The clinic was very busy and I didn't find the x-rays machines to be as outdated and some have said. Either way, it got the job done. Then the next day, we were told to be at the clinic at 4am. Even though it was for no reason. The doctor came in at about 7am. We could have arrived at 6 or 6.30am. When the doctor was ready, she called me in and marked me up. I was the first patient of the day. Was given the blue pill and taken to the operating room, sat on the bed and was given the anesthesia. Before I knew it, I woke up in my room. The surgery had gone well. Stood overnight in the clinic and was released the next day to go to Virginia's Recovery House. When I arrived at the recovery house, Virginia was very welcoming and slept with me for the first 2 nights. She is very attentive. They have a schedule when it comes to meals and medications. You are given your medications at the appropriate time, so you don't have to worry about forgetting a dosage, as Virginia is very organized and on top of everything. I go see the doctor every 3 days for a check-up. The wait is long but I just come prepared to wait.

At the Recovery House, they have bought in a new girl, named Julissa. She is now working the day shift, and Virginia is working the night shift. This is to give Virginia a break as she has gone weeks without leaving the house. Julissa is very nice and learning very quickly to do things. Also, Dr. Martha Hernandez comes in every morning to check up on us and to give us medications like injections if it is needed. She is very nice too and speaks perfect english.

I meals are great. They are cooked by Joana. She is a great cook. She does the cleaning, laundry, and the cooking. They give us alot of fruits like pineapple which helps in our healing with this kind of surgery.

I will be leaving in 2 days. I have to say, that my overall experience has been great. I am glad I choose Dr. Robles for my surgery. My incision is low and thin, and healing nicely. Hopefully Dr. Robles will take my drain out tomorrow since I am hardly draining at all.

When I return home, I will post photos so you can see my progress.

I also wanted to note that Virginia's recovery house has hospital beds which makes more comfortable for you to sleep and to get in and out of bed. The rooms also have private bathrooms. The house also has a computer and great Wi-Fi in case you want to bring a tablet or laptop.

Today I'm 9 days post opt. Tonight's my last night at the recovery house. Today I went for my check up hoping that my drain would be removed, but it wasn't. Turns out my drain was clogged and not draining correctly. She gave me a new drain. Also my legs continue to be swollen so she gave me another injection for circulation. I pray the swelling goes down soon. I am excited that I'll be returning home tomorrow to my family.

Today I'm 10 days PO. I flew back home. It feels wonderful to be back with my family. My legs are super swollen but expected that after a long day of travel. I understand that this is part of the recovery. I just hope that it doesn't last too long. I'll post photos soon.

I am 12 days PO. I am so thankful for my husband....

I am 12 days PO. I am so thankful for my husband. He cleaned my incisions' applied neosporin, and replace with new gauze. I still have the drain in. Will see tonight if I'm draining less than 50. I put up photos of my surgery and of the clinic.

Today I am 13 days PO. I returned to work today....

Today I am 13 days PO. I returned to work today. Luckily I have a desk job and I was able to get a lot of work done. I only stood at work for a few hours. I also drove and it felt great. I am still draining at 50cc for 24 hours for the past 2 days. I washed my hair in the sink and it felt so wonderful, lol... Can't wait til I can have a regular bath. I also noticed today that the swelling on my inner thighs have reduced greatly! I am continuing to drink a lot of fluids. And stay off my feet as much as possible. I can't wait to be able to sleep in my bed. Sleeping in a recliner is torture for me......

Well today I'm 2 weeks PO. I guess I over did it...

Well today I'm 2 weeks PO. I guess I over did it yesterday and felt very tired and drained today. But either way I went to work but stood only for a few hours. Then came home and took a nap. Still draining like crazy. Was able to sleep in my bed for the first time for a few hours. Just can't wait to be able to walk straight again.

Today I'm 15 days PO. Today was a good day. I felt...

Today I'm 15 days PO. Today was a good day. I felt really good. My husband says I was walking much straighter. The swelling has gone down dramatically. I don't see that I'm that swollen in my stomach. My stomach looks so good. I'm so happy. I did notice a small infection under my left boob incision where she inserted the lipo rod. I think the top of the faja irritated it so I need to watch it more closely to make sure it doesn't get worse. I'll leave the top hook loose to see if it gets better. I was able to go to the supermarket and buy a few items. Just had to lean on the shopping cart whenever I would get tired. I feel myself getting stronger each day. Tomorrow I will be getting my first massage.

Today I'm 16 days PO. I got my first massage today...

Today I'm 16 days PO. I got my first massage today. I also removed my drain today. It didn't hurt much, just a little discomfort. I was draining less than 50cc for the past two days. I just pray I don't develop a seroma. I'm feeling really good these days!

Today I am 17 days PO! I am a little concerned...

Today I am 17 days PO! I am a little concerned with an infection I have in the incision where she inserted the lipo rod under my left boob. It filled up with puss and its open since she removed the stitches before I left DR. I guess my garment irritated it and it got infected. I have been cleaning it every day and it seems like the puss is going away. It seemed a little more red today. I am keeping a close eye on it. I also am not hooking my garment all the way up so my incision could heal. Seems like its working. Well other then that, I am feeling great. Stronger each day. I got massaged yesterday, but she only massaged my legs and arms. Next week she'll start massaging my sides where I got lipo.

I am so happy with the results. Just can't wait so I can stand fully straight. Soon I'll post photos.

Today I am 19 days PO. I have uploaded new photos....

Today I am 19 days PO. I have uploaded new photos. I am feeling great. Still walking a little hunched over but much better then before. So looking forward to walking straight again.

Today I am 3 weeks PO. I had my 2nd massage today....

Today I am 3 weeks PO. I had my 2nd massage today. It felt really good. I would say 90% of the swelling has gone away. So happy for that. I am feeling good and walking straighter each day. Sleeping better too. Very happy with the results and can't wait to go shopping for new clothes. My husband is also liking what he sees, lol..... Which makes me very happy! I also weighed myself. I have lost an additional 7lbs. Now I weigh 163lbs. So I am continuing to eat as healthy and possible and hopefully lose a little more weight. Either way, I am very happy!

Today I am 25 days PO. I am feeling so good. I am...

Today I am 25 days PO. I am feeling so good. I am extremely happy with my results. I'm a tiny bit swollen but you really don't see it. The only thing still bothering me is the pain and discomfort from the lipo. I'm still very hard and lumpy to the touch. But with the massages know that it will improve. I put up more photos.

Today I am 1 month PO! I am feeling great. Still...

Today I am 1 month PO! I am feeling great. Still feel some discomfort from the lipo and have some back pain, but nothing crazy. I am so happy with how I look now. Now, I want to take photos. I must say I am so happy with my decision to go to DR and have my surgery with Dr. Robles. She is great at what she does. Also, Virginia's Recovery House was excellent too. I would highly recommend to any ladies to consider DR for their surgery. Its much cheaper and you get great recovery care which you won't get here in the states unless you have some family members who can take care of you. Or if you pay for a nurse. No regrets at all. Except for waiting so long to have it done, lol.... But things happen when its the right time and it was for me at this time!!

Today I am 30 days PO. I had my third massage and...

Today I am 30 days PO. I had my third massage and for the first time I was able to lie face down! It felt so wonderful to get a back massage. Can't wait for my next session, lol..... I am still feeling sore but am getting more flexible and sleeping more comfortably. My stomach still feels tight but not like before.

Today I am 5 weeks PO. Feel great. Getting more...

Today I am 5 weeks PO. Feel great. Getting more mobility back as each day passes. Sleeping better too. A little swollen in my belly but that's expected.

6 Weeks PO!

Today I am 6 weeks PO! I got my 5th lymphatic massage today and feel great. I haven't been wearing my spanx for a few days..... Got so tired of being squeezed in and needed a break. But I will start wearing it tomorrow again. I was told you should wear it for 8 weeks. Well I feel so good. Very little swelling on my belly. Tomorrow I will take new photos and post. Today I went and bought some summer dresses. I just couldn't resist. They looked so cute on me. I am so happy with my results. I can't believe how much better I look. I just feel so my more confident about myself.

6 Weeks Post-Opt Photos!

Today I am 8 weeks PO! Feeling fabulous. Happy with my healing.

13 Weeks PO!

13 Weeks PO! Finished the 10 lymphatic massages recommended by Dr. Robles. Feeling great. Still some swelling but that's to be expected, as it can take up too 1 year to recover from this surgery. Feeling fabulous. No regrets at all.

21 weeks PO! Feeling great!

Just important info relating to Plastic Surgery in DR.

Unfortunately this article is in Spanish but speaks about the danger of plastic surgery in DR due to many fake doctors performing surgery and causing severe complications, deformations, and even death.

Did u have the spanx brand or somethin similar to what we where giving n the DR. Also how can you tell me in more detail now you treated you infection incision. I had my drain removed last week and had been taping it daily. Just noticing every time I Removed the tap I took the scab off. Looks like It might be infected now.

I used the faja from Dr. Robles, then bought something similar at JC Penny. The incision under my left boob got infected because the faja kept rubbing against it so I just cleaned it twice a day with alcohol and put a first aid antibacterial ointment on it until it healed. Apply a generous amount of ointment on the wound before covering it so it doesn't stick to it. That's what I did.

Beautiful job!!! You look fabulous. I've scheduled my surgery for Sept and have some questions if you dont mind. My husband will join me but where can he stay and how were the rates? Am I better to stay at the recovery place rather than leaving the clinic and going to a hotel? We wanted to get there 2 days prior so we can enjoy some time before I'm bed ridden lol...any suggestions for that? Were there any extra fees you werent expecting to pay? How is the scar now? Im terrified of the scar :-( thank you

Hi, thank you. There is a hotel within walking distance to the hospital but I don't remember what it is called. Wilson, the driver, recommended it and it served its purpose. It was under $100/night. I don't know what kind of surgery your getting. I assume your getting a tummy tuck. I would highly recommend you stay at Virginias Recovery house because you will need assistance with recovery. The recovery can be difficult and scary and the ladies there are experienced and make the recovery so much easier with all that they do. Keep in mind that the recovery house is about 20 minutes away from the hospital so he'll need a car to get around or take taxi's. Unfortunately they don't allow men in Virginia's Recovery house but your husband can visit you each day. They have a porch with chairs to make visits possible. And it my opinion it was great because you get to rest peacefully and are not in the mood to socialize, at least in my experience, lol..... I stood for a total of 10 days. My husband only stood for the first few days and then returned to the states. Yes, bring an extra few hundred dollars. You might need extra medicine, physical therapy, or need to have some oxygen treatments that cost $100 a session but do help with healing. The scar healed but remember it won't ever go away completely. Just will fade as time goes on but it also depends of your skin.

Pixiehollow if you talk with Laura, she can tell you the recovery house that lets you bring your husband I think its Queens recovery....but confirm with her, an I believe the fee was $55.00 a knight for your companion. I was planning to go with dr. Robles for TT and BBL, but changed my mind and going to do TT, and BA here...I will travel to her in March 2015 to get BBL...this is the reason why I know because my husband was going to travel with me and Laura had it all set up. as for the scars...the only recommendations is scar therapy after your surgery..you would have to wait a while before you decide to get scar therapy..theres also ROSA Mosca oil its really great for scars..and silicone scar tape....I hope this helps

Hello. I've been trying to find out how to get in touch with Virginia's RH. Do you have the website?

Thank you for your story ... You look awesome!!! I have a few questions. 1.how long did you stay in the DR ? 2. i don't remember if you said you brought your husband or not but if u did did they feed him at the RH? 3.when you arrived did you go straight to the hospital? And if so did you have to spend the night there. The reason for that question is mainly because I read this allot on here but not explained in great detail .... So basically what I want to understand is the process.

Hi, thank you! I went for 10 days total. My husband did come with me but he didn't stay at Virginia's Recovery house with me because they don't allow men. He stood at a nearby hotel and visited me everyday for the first few days after surgery. He then flew back to the states to care for our children. When you arrive, you get picked up at the airport by the driver and are transported straight to the hospital for pre-surgical testing. You can stay the night at the hospital if you wish. You can have your spouse/relative/friend spend the night with you at the hospital. Room has a couch. I preferred to stay at the hotel the night before surgery and just arrived very early the next day for my surgery. After surgery you spend one night at hospital. Then you get released the day after surgery. I recieved excellent care at Virginia's Recovery house and highly recommend them to anyone.
