Tummy Tuck & Breast Reduction in a Few Days - California

Worth It
Spent: $8,000 in California

Posted 5 Jul 2010

I am having a breast reduction and tummy tuck in a couple of days, July 8th to be exact. As much as I've been wanting this I am extremely nervous. I worked hard to lose weight and told myself if I could lose 60lbs I will reward myself with a tummy tuck and breast reduction. Although I worked really hard to achieve my goal I never thought I could actually do it. Well here I am ready to go in for my reward.

I have a very supportive husband and three daughters ages 8,10 & 14 who have all agreed to help out with house chores and caring for me. Hopefully I'm not too difficult. I rented a lift chair from Rent a Center that will be delivered tommorow. I am going shopping tommorow for other things that might help ease my recovery such as wipes, pillows, etc. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I'm not sure of what things to buy.

Maybe I'll get enough courage to post pre-op pictures soon.

I'm so upset. Just as I was waiting to be called to have my lab work done I started my period. Now I'm sitting here undressed waiting for my ps to come in to mark me up. Starting my period the day before my procedure just added to my stress level. I have so many thoughts running through my head now. Is there anyone out there that has had a tummy tuck while on your period? If so did everything work out okay? I was already afraid now I'm worse.

Updated on Jul 8, 2010:
Well it's a little after 1am and I'm having trouble falling asleep. I guess my nerves are over taking me. I'm also making sure I did everything possible to make my kids and husbands life easier. I made a complete meal menu for a whole month that even includes snacks. I went out and bought everything they will be needing for the month. I hope I didn't forget anything. I must say... I have OCD and have to have things pre-planned and well organized.

Now back to my procedure. I will be having to get up in 2 hours to shower and head to the hospital. The hospital is 1 1/2 hour away. I have to be there by 5:30am and my procedure is scheduled for 7:30 am. My PS said I will be in surgery about 5hrs.

My weight today at my pre-op was 177.8 and I am 5 '6. I had my daughter take pictures of my body a couple of hours ago so that i could post them up but I am so disgusted by them. I don't know maybe I'll put them up once I feel well enough to take and post an after photo so that i could post them together and maybe i wont feel so bad. However looking at my pictures makes me so happy I am doing this. I'm just so afraid of getting sick. I get so sick after surgeries. I throw up so much and always feel so horrible. Being sick like that with a tummy tuck... OUCH!! I am also very difficult to wake after a surgery. I've had my gallstones removed at one time and my appendix at another. I just hope and pray that this time is better.

Well I better try to get some rest. I'll post an update soon.

Yay!! Just came out of my post op appointment and I'm happy to say the drains came out. My PS says everything looks good and that I'm healing nicely. I feel so much better without the tubes although I must say it really hurt to get them out. I been feeling a bit nausea but I'm thinking me being constipated. I will be taking Phillips MOM as soon as I get home. I don't have very much pain today bit still have lots of swelling. I wonder how long it will be until the swelling goes down.

Updated on Jul 14, 2010:
Day 6 post op. I woke up today in pain. I somehow thought this was suppose to get better. My boobs hurt more than my tummy all of a sudden. However, I've also been feeling these strange pains that come all of a sudden in my tummy. As much as I'm trying not to take anymore pain meds and actually made it the whole day through without any yesterday, I had to take a viciden right now. I'm probably in pain because I failed to take my pain meds thinking I was feeling better. I guess it's a lesson learned. I am going to try to stop being this strong woman and I am going to take my pain meds as needed even if it's just Aleve like I had been doing before I decided I no longer needed nothing at all. Aside from hurting I must also say I've been really itchy. I guess that's all part of the healing process. On a positive note I have lost 7lbs and can finally say that I think someof the swelling has went down. Well maybe just a little because I am still very swollen. As for clothes, well I haven't tried putting regular clothes on yet. I just wear these comfortable pajama gowns I bought before my surgery. Truthfully, I guess I'm afraid to try regular clothes on. Since I'm swollen in all, I'm afraid I won't fit into my before jeans and I'll be disappointed. I'd rather wait a bit longer but I will post an update when I do.

I am 6 days post op and have finally figured out how to post these pictures. Although they are disgusting and I am embarrased by them I figured they might be of help to someone who is thinking about having this procedure done. Looking back at the pre-op pictures makes me so glad I had this done and I would do it all over again. The swelling is a bit of a bother but I know within time it will go down and I will feel better. I will continue to post pictures every couple of days.Hopefully by the next time I post the swelling will have gone down some. For anyone out their considering having this done......GO FOR IT!! YOU WILL BE SO GLAD YOU DID!!! :)

Day 9 post op I'm feeling so much better each and everyday. I did begin to feel a little of the blues today which I've read is normal when you have this type of procedure. Never the less, I was able to shake it off by going back and looking at my before and after photos and reminding myself that I did this for me and I deserve it and that in a few weeks I'm going to love looking in the mirror and I'm going to be so happy. So for any of you out there going through this please try to stay positive because you deserve this. Another thing I noticed going on today aside from me really missing cuddling and sleeping with my hubby is that I've been extremely thirsty. I've been drinking so much water it's crazy. I say it's crazy because I'm not much of a water drinker. However I'm glad because I know water is good for you. Does anybody know if extreme thirst is part of the recovery. On a positive note, my swelling seems to have gone down some, my energy level has gone up and I've lost another pound in a half. I'll be posting a new picture soon.

Day 10 Post op. As each day passes, I am feeling better and loving my new body. Although I think I out did myself a bit to much yesterday. I convinced my hubby that I was well enough to go to the movies and for dinner. In reality I did feel well but I burned myself out. I quickly got tired. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time. It was nice to get out again I just think I should have waited a little longer as my hubby had suggested. Lesson learned, I must take it easy regardless of how well I feel on the outside.

15 days post op I'm 15 days post op and feeling great. Everyday gets better. I had another dr. appointment 2 days ago in which my PS removed my belly button stitches. He said I'm healing very well. I went and bought a couple of tops yesterday and I went down from an xl to just a large. In pants I went from a tight 12 to looks like a 10. They almost button but I'm still quite swollen. We'll see what size I end up being. I had been having such a hard time getting sleep. I would sleep 2 hours then I'd stay awake for like 5 or 6. It was awful. So basically I would go to sleep at 10 wake up at 12 then I could not go back to sleep until about 6 in the morning. I think I solved that problem. Yesterday I bought Advil PM and it worked wonders. I'm happy to say that I slept the whole night without getting up once. I actually think I got about 10 to 11 hours of sleep. It feels great to finally get some sleep. So if any of you are having this problem Advil PM or Tylenol PM should help. I'll be posting another picture soon.

I am 6 weeks post-op. And I can honestly say if it was not for reading other peoples stories on this site, I do not think I could of went through with it! I was scared to death, I was so afraid I would not wake up from the 6.5 hour procedure. Thankfully all went well! I will say that there are a few things I could of not lived without. Being stuck in the recliner during day and night was the hardest part for me. You will definitley need lots of pillows, makemeheal.com has a wedge pillow that I wish I would have boughten. Also my back was killing me from being hunched over, so I bought a kneading massager. And I tell you, you are gonna love that thing walgreens has a good one that I sent my husband for. Also I recommend using a shower chair and adjustable shower head for the first week or so. Showering gets easier once the drains are out. I used probabley 20 boxes of gauze keeping my wound cushioned from the garment. I also bought lots of sundress' to wear, because I did not like anything touching my wound area. I kept ice packs on my chest and never really felt much pain from that! Good luck! I hope you love your new body!

Thank you so much for sharing your story and for all your tips. I will definitely add those items to my list. Are there any particular foods, drinks, or vitamins that you feel helped you out? Now that you are 6 weeks post op how do you like your new body? Thanks again
Bird26 6 Jul 2010
I took a multi-vitamin, just one a day. And Vitamin C tablets, they help with the healing. Also, this was recommended to me, but I did not take it too seriously until later, you might wanna pick up some cough drops. The breathing tube dries your throat out and you will probabley develop a sore throat which could turn into a cough, NOT COOL LOL! Also a colon health table, phillips makes a great one. Because LIke mamabug said stool softners were not enough. I am very happy with the results from my procedure. I will say though, I was not sure at first. Your skin will be pulled so tight it looks unnatural at first, but as you heal it looks better and better. I am excited to get to exercise and not have all of that extra skin to hide my hard work! Tell your husband he is not allowed to watch stand up comedy for a few days after you come home! It is torture to laugh!
mom of 3girls 6 Jul 2010
LOL!! Thanks for the added tips. My husband loves to watch those comedy shows too. I'll be sure to tell him that's not allowed for the first few days. I will also add the other items you mentioned to my list. Thanks again.

I preferred my bed to a recliner, with about three pillows propping my feet up and 4 pillows propping my head up. I also had a little table right by my bed (I couldn't use my nightstand because it was not close enough to reach easily). Since you're also having a breast reduction, you might find flexible drinking straws helpful for the first week or so. I bought a couple of cheap button-down/zip-down grannie gowns at Walmart and they were perfect! I had a BL and TT, and Champion makes a great zip-up sports bra that was great for transitioning into after the binder came off. You might need something for constipation - most of us do after this surgery. Stool softeners DID NOT work for me. I needed an OTC laxative. GOOD LUCK!

I am 4 weeks post op from my TT and Breast Aug. I was in our recliner for 8 days straight!! It hurt my butt and gave me hemorrhoids. Since going to my bed, I am so much better!! Make sure you have plenty of Tylenol Max strength too. I also bought the ready to drink Myoplex protein shakes (drank 3-4 a day), 2 vit C, a multi vit, 2 Q-10, 2 iron, 4 stool softeners and 2 calcium a day. The bendy straws are the best! I also wore my hubby's button down shirts and my big baggy sweats. I am STILL not allowed to wear a bra because I had scar tissue building fast for my BA, but you shouldn't have that problem. With the TT, you really need to walk around, it will make your blood flow and heal you faster. Get jello, bananas and other soft food to eat because the first 3-4 days I didn't want to eat and I got full very quickly! Good Luck and Congratulations!! =)

You will do great and be happy you did this procedure for yourself. You will feel like a new woman in no time at all. I am 12 weeks out now and could not be any happier. My advice would be this...rent a hospital bed for the first two weeks...Lifesaver!! Yes your back will hurt from being hunched over but that will get better. Massage and changing position as much as possible helps. Make sure you eat plenty of good protein so that you heal well. Also drink plenty of water and start taking MOM the day or two after surgery. Trust me when I say you do not want to get consitpated; that will really hurt. Also Gas X is a big help. Try to get out in the sunshine at least once or twice a day because you will get a little down from the pain. The sun will cheer you up. Everybody has a different pain level so I really hate to say how good or bad it will be. Just keep your eye on the end prize and know it will get better. Stay on top of your pain meds and take right on the button as prescribed. Even if you don't think you need the next dose..TAKE IT! A shower chair would also be a big help. It hurts to stand up for the first week so sitting with a removable shower head will be a luxury. Even though taking a shower about wiped me out for the day it was worth it and felt great. Oh yes and the most important advice...DON'T and I repeat DON'T SNEEZE! Supress that any way you can for about a month. You will do great!
JenD. 7 Jul 2010
I completely agree with the sneezing!! I sucks BAD!!! My allergies are acting up and I am having to blow off the sneezes, though few have gotten through! OUCH!! =)
Kimmers25 (Community Manager) 8 Jul 2010
My allergies also acted up about two weeks after surgery. The only thing that helped me was Benadryl. That seemed to stop the sneezing but it made me sleep all the time.

Thank you so much for your tips, advice and words of encouragement. Your words of encouragement were very helpful as I am getting more and more nervous as each hour passes. I will definitely take your advice and try to keep my eyes on the prize. Thanks Again :)

I'm 2 1/2 weeks out today. I had a TT with muscle repair and lipo on my flanks, hips, inner and outter thighs. The surgery was 6 hours, 8 hours total by the time I recovered enough to leave the clinic. Like you, my daughters, ages 22 and 19, and husband were very helpful. I was completly scared out of my mind the night before and seriously questioned my judgement. That being said, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The first 3 days were by far the worst, but tolerable. After all, we've been through childbirth multiple times, right?...this website, and the experiences of other TT comments were very helpful, and eased my mind so much! Arnica tablets for the swelling helps!, you can find this at any GNC or super supplements. My husband and I slept in side by side recliners and just having support 24/7 helps!, I went straight to dicolax after reading all the comments on constipation, now I just watch my diet and everything is regular. Have lots of easy snacks, jello, yogurt and scrambled egg whites were the main diet for a week. I showered with the garmet on, my doctor reccomended it, just used a hair dryer to dry it off, and I did that for probably the first week. Wear the compression garments 24/7 , this really made a difference on my swelling, and at my 10 day check, I had no visible swelling! With all of your support, you have everything you need!, I wish you the best and will be anxious for your updates.

Thank you so much for sharing your story as well as your tips and advice. I feel so much better knowing that even though you just recently had your procedure done and all the pain you went through is still fresh in your head....you are happy with the decision you made. Hearing that makes me a little less nervous. Thanks again and I will be sure to keep the updates coming.

Yes I did!!! =) I was on my period, no worries!! Some PS say that you aren't allowed to wear a tampon, mine didn't say that. Though I totally forgot to wear one! LOL! No worries, it will be fine!
JenD. 7 Jul 2010
BTW~ What doctor are you going to? I see you are in Cali too, I was just wondering! =)
mom of 3girls 7 Jul 2010
Thank you so much. I feel better. I am having my procedure done at Clovis Community Hospital by a PS from Fresno. Are you from that area? If so or if you are intrested I could give you the exact name and info.

I didn't sleep the night before my surgery either! Good luck with your surgery. I had alot of nausea too after surgery but they gave me medicine that stopped the throwing up immediately. Throwing up was uncomfortable but I still had alot of drugs in me so it wasn't too bad. I'm also hard to wake up as well. They had to keep pushing back the time for my husband to come get me because they couldn't get me to stay awake long enough. lol!! Don't hesitate to put up your before pics. We have all been there too. :) I was horrified by my tummy! I'm sure you will look amazing! Let us know how you are doing!!
mom of 3girls 9 Jul 2010
Yay, I made it through my tummy tuck and breast reduction. Although I'm in pain as of yet I still have no regrets and am so glad I did this. I ended up staying in the hospital because I was very sick when I woke up. Honestly, I think I would of had the most worst night ever had I gone home. The nurses here were awesome and helped me so much. They made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I am going home today and am happy because I miss my daughters. I can't really see my tummy but it does appear to be alot smaller. However, my boobs do look alot smaller. They use to be a size H. So I'm sure my PS had plenty to remove. Prior to my surgery my PS said I'd be a size C possibly a size D. I guess we'll have to see. I have 4 tubes. One on each breast and two on my lower abdomin. The tubes do make it harder to go to the restroom. I hope they don't have to stay in too long. Due to me being so sick yesterday I had absolutely nothing to eat or drink until today. However, I am eating very little. I don't have very much of an appitite. Well I better get some rest before I leave here. I will post another update soon.
Robin 1953 9 Jul 2010
I wish I had NOT had an appitite when I had my TT..... WHEY PROTEIN is helping me now. I love it, and I FEEL GREAT. I love my new shape. GOD BLESS OUR PS DOCTORS!! Good luck on your road to recovery!!
