My First Week - Belgium

I am in Belgium right now and chose to get...

I am in Belgium right now and chose to get Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, and my boobs enhanced before we move in a month. Probably not a smart move there, but I would not be able to do it financially at a later date. 4000 euros for the tummy tuck, 3000 euros for the liposuction from bra strap to knees, and 3000 for silicone implants below the muscles.

I thought I had researched enough, but obviously I hadn't. Also in typical Belgium style, getting information from the doctors over here is very difficult. Everything I know about liposuction is what I learned online. I think if I had just the liposuction it would be fine by now. The pain from the liposuction was strong, but has been diminishing quickly. I totally agree about the feeling being like a hard workout or a bad sunburn.

I chose to get these three done because I've been working out religiously 3-5 days a week, mostly 5 days, and I have this stomach bulge/love handles that I can't get rid of. I also had twins which made my stomach incredibly saggy. I am one of the strongest in my workout group, and you can tell I have some nice muscle underneath, but no matter what I did I couldn't change it, so I decided to do lipo/tummy tuck/boobs.

I think the pain from my liposuction, 1 week later, is tolerable, it's just dealing with the tummy tuck and new boobs that are difficult.

I went into this surgery about 20 lbs overweight. She took 4 liters of fat off my body, plus cut off 2.5 kg of skin/fat on my belly.

As I lay in the hospital bed feeling my pain all over I questioned my sanity getting this done. Yes, I gained more mobility each day in the hospital. Being in the hospital here with nurses that don't communicate or respond was difficult. My allergies apparently are still affecting my lungs and I'm suspecting I have a slight asthma from it and I'm worried that my first boute of coughing to cough up the phlem in my lungs might have torn the upper stitches in my abdomen. Having my chest wrapped really tightly made it worse. Nurses were having a difficult time understanding why they should give me an antihistimine for my allergies. At the end of the 2nd day in the hospital I finally convinced one nurse to give it to me because it hurts my stitches to cough.

I'm here alone while my husband is in Iraq, so after realizing how handicapped I was I chose to go home with a friend until Wed when my children would come home from a friend's house. Glad I did! If it was just liposuction, then I think I could have come home to be alone, but my additions made that not an option.

Sunday, 3 days after the surgery, still can't stand upright. Can't wait to get my two drainage tubes out Tues evening.

Monday, 4 days after the surgery, my whole body was starting to swell to the point where my skin felt like it was going to split. No ankles.

Tues, 5 days after the surgery, I had my first appointment with the doctor. She removed my compression garment, removed my compression bandages, and cleaned my stitches. I had to lay down after that because I was getting light headed. My body took two days backwards after that. Doctor asked if they gave me an anti-coagulant shot in the hospital. They hadn't so I get to give myself them for 10 days. I also have to take off the compression garment and clean my stitches every other day. Most stitches are disolvable, but the ones in the belly cut and belly button are not.

I'm once again not able to stand upright, and have pain sitting up too. Laying down with legs up is only option right now. Gave myself first anti-coagulant shot immediately when I got home Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday, 8 days after surgery and at home alone with kids (8, 6, and 6). I think the anti-coagulant shot is helping with my swelling going down. At least that's what I'm attributing it to.

Friday, 9 days after surgery, much better now with little swelling in feet and can stand upright again. Still stings in lower abdomen area, my boobs are swollen and my pecs hurt depending on how I lay down. Feels better sitting up for the boobs. My liposuction areas feel like I have a numbing agent on them when I rub them. Back hurts because of the stomach I think and then that causes a chain reaction and my neck hurts. I've been taking a muscle relaxant and anti-inflamatory since I've been home and that has helped with the secondary pain in my back and headaches.

I know it's only been a week, but my combination of surgeries (liposuction, tummy tuck, and boob augmentation) sure seems worse than my hysterectomy last year. I'm also starting to suspect that she didn't liposuction my belly before doing the tummy tuck. Hopefully that's just swelling I'm seeing/feeling, but I don't think so. I think it will be worth it. My workout buddy is excited about my results despite the swelling, so I have to trust her and wait for the swelling to go down. I am happy about the immediate removal of saddle bags and love handles. I think I'll like my stomach too, but there's a long way to go to see results there.

I would make sure to get fully informed before the surgery and before talking to the doctor because I think my doctor is good, but she doesn't communicate too well. I got the tummy tuck as well, but I think she didn't liposuction it first and that's disappointing to find out that my expectations aren't met.
