1 month update

I'm doing pretty well. Still have to watch the swelling-- if I go without the binder for a few hours, I pay for it. So I'm only taking small breaks in the morning and before bed.

The scarring has been minimal. My PS directs patients to use micropore paper tape. I'm really pleased with the faint scarring on my breast lift, and the thin line on my belly. There are a lot of lumps underneath the scars, so I'll ask about thrm at my next appt.

2 weeks post op

Still feeling pretty great! I can't believe how quickly healing has happened, but I have to be careful not to overdo stuff because I feel so normal. I have some leftover bruising, but the discomfort on my back is much less. I do swell as the day goes on but it's nothing like I thought it would be. Not uncomfortable. It might be hard to judge since I'm always in clothing with lots of stetch.

I went to a post op yesterday but unfortunately had to leave very quickly due to a last minute school thing that I couldn't miss. So it was basically a quick check from Dr. Suver (dr.cole has been on vacation, but I've really liked this doc too) to make sure there wasnt a fluid buildup and I was told I looked great and they'd see me in 6 weeks. He also said to keep wearing the binder until then and spanx underneath. The problem with having to leave so fast is that i couldn't ask questions, like how much they took off of me (I keep forgetting to ask that) and about the incisions and paper tape.

I've had my paper tape for one week now and it's stuck to the incisions but is starting to really loosen up on the edges. Last night I started to peel off a section on top of my nipple, but when I got to one spot where the scab came off on the tape and there was a tiny hole, I freaked out and put it back. Any advice for how to change the tape? Is it normal for a scab to come off too? I'm going to call my PS office today to see if I can have the questions answered, but I know there is nothing like advice from those who have done it before.

One week out and feeling great!

What a difference a couple of days makes! I was able to get my drains out at my one week post-op appointment yesterday since my output had been low (10 ml per drain per day) for a few days. The feeling people describe about a snake going through your belly is a pretty good description of how it feels. Not much pain. It's been such a relief being able to wear regular clothes again. My healing has also been progressing very well. I have been off of all but advil since yesterday. The only real pain I have is at about 3 am every night when I wake up to very sore flanks. I think laying on them all night in bed in one position is just too much pressure. At the advice of my surgeon, I'm wearing spanx underneath my binder and it gives good support and is keeping any extra swelling to a minimum. Super happy with my results so far and the experience I've had. I know it's just going to get better.

I am so incredibly glad that I chose Dr. Cole to do my abdominoplasty and mastopexy. From the first consult she had me excited to get the procedures done. Dr. Cole is confident and knows what works. The consult and pre-op were pretty to the point. I had ample time to ask questions. The office staff and assistants are all very sweet and knowledgable. In all of the appointments, I had only one situation where I was not seen either early or on-time, and I think that was just because so many people were on vacation. And still the wait was minimal. On the day of the surgery, my experience at the Alaska Surgery Center was probably as perfect as it could be. I was so incredibly scared. But I had a great pre-op nurse who put in an IV that didn't even leave me with a mark after surgery. The anesthesiologist and his staff made sure I left there without nausea or pain. I was very impressed with how kind the environment was. The real positive of choosing Dr. Cole though comes from the results. While I'm only a couple weeks out of the procedure, I am amazed at how my breast lift turned out. My breasts look full and natural and are so incredibly tight (in a good way). My abdominoplasty scar is as low as she promised it would be! My belly button is still pretty hidden by tape but is also beautifully done. The day of the surgery Dr. Cole decided to do some extra liposuction beyond the original plan of some on the flanks, and I think that decision also made a really big difference in the results. She did additional shaping up high on my bra line and my back. It definitely was the worst discomfort of the whole surgery, but so worth it. I should note too that I wasn't charged extra for the extra liposuction. She just knew after studying my before photos that I'd have the best outcome with a little bit more work, so she spent the extra time on it. My post op appointments have all been with Dr. Suver since Dr. Cole has been on vacation, and although I can't vouch for his surgical skills, I have really appreciated his calm and kind personality during the appointments. There are not many options in Alaska for plastic surgeons, and I know many people consider going out of state to have their surgeries done because of this. But I truly feel that Dr. Cole is an incredibly talented surgeon and I'm so glad I chose her for my work. I'd recommend her 100%.
