Stitch Abscess?

ORIGINAL POST

I had surgery to correct a left breast deformity....

WORTH IT$5,900

I had surgery to correct a left breast deformity. I had an augmentation and mastopexy of bilateral breasts done. Implant used was silicone, 270cc each breast.

I had augmentation and mastopexy in 2/2009. I had 1 follow-up visit with surgeon who performed surgery. I had to move for my job, so found another surgeon who removed my stitches. She stated she had received my records from my surgeon. All was well until 5/25/2009. On my left breast, outer edge of the areola on the incision line I have had a 1 inch redness with a pustule in the middle. Could this be a stitch abscess?

Yes that is a stitch abcess... I had several after my lift and augmentation. Put a warm compress on it- it will rupture and the stitch will come out. Then treat it with peroxide and neosporin. Keep a close watch on it for infection. Hope that helps!!
Sure looks like a spitting stitche I've had a few come to the surface... Keep the area clean & use neosporin cover with band aid you will be fine.
Dear Runnerslady... The area of breakdown is called suture spitting and when that area keeps rubbing on your bra or anything rough, it take the top layer of your incision off and since there is a suture that is under, it can make it look worse but it is not actually an abscess. It is just a simple incision breakdown and if you just apply triple antibiotic ointment to it and keep it covered and dry after showering, it will heal very soon. Make sure high protein diet is included in your meals and take Vitamin C 2000-3000 mg per day and while in the shower, rub a clean washcloth over it to irritate the granulation and clean off the whitish material that you see. Good luck.
It appears to be a little local infection, whether from a stitch or not. It can be drained and culture in the office. Some antibiotics should be given also.
This certainly looks like a small stitch abscess which is easily treated with removing the stitch remnant, cleaning the site and applying antibiotic ointment and or prescribing an antibiotic for the surrounding redness. Stitch abscesses are not uncommon but resolve quickly with proper attention. Best wishes.
