I've read a lot of academic journal articles and doctors' responses on RealSelf about the pros and cons of partial submandibular gland resection for a better jaw contour. My doctor is experienced with them and seems to be well-regarded. I understand there are risks because of nearby nerves, and possibly dry mouth, but many doctors say that dry mouth is rare. However, is it possible that the possible slight reduction in saliva production only becomes apparently/problematic in old age?
Im 36 and weight is 9 and half stone I had a deep plane neck lift its been about a month and it looks like its failed there is no different of the befoe and after I thought it looked ok when the bandages came off. Is this lax skin under my jawline or fat or my gland. He said hd got rid of fat loose skin and part of submadular gland after going through such a major procedure as a deep plane neck lift to look no different. Can the submadular gland be removed completely to get better result.
Doc did platysmaplasty with single chin incision, no ear incisions or lateral fixation. No fat or skin removed, solely to correct platysma bands. After 3 months I have bulges on either side of jaw, but the right side is much worse. When I move looks like platysma has been pulled forward and is maybe tenting skin up, but could this be submandibular glands that have fallen due to platysma being pulled forward? Definitely was not like this before, had tight jawline in this area. How hard to fix?
You still have the parotid and sublingual gland left but will they make up for the loss as if you would remove a kidney? I'm looking for deep neck surgery to improve jawline and i heard removal of this may be included.
HI! I recently read in a scholarly article regarding the injection of certain neurotoxins into the submandibular glands in an attempt to reduce their size. The article suggests this method during a facelift or necklift as opposed to removal or a resection. I'm curious if any PS are practicing this method? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7553394/#!po=72.2222
First face/neck lift procedure was 12 yrs. ago. I am 9 months post op of 2nd (revision) face/neck lift. Neck lift results are sub optimal and have not improved. There is submandibular Right side asymmetry fullness/droop. After 2 procedures, I am still unable to surgically obtain a contoured defined neck and jawline. Is the area SMG ptosis and can it be corrected?
I've grilled numerous facial PS's both pre-op and after failed 1st necklift about expected results; not one ever said my glands were an issue. My current facial PS said before revision that glands were fine. Wrong. Now suffering w cobra neck w/few options to fix. If fillers, etc are useless, and this problem is common, why aren't there more treatment options? In the best hands, I've read dry mouth, etc are uncommon in partial SMG removal. Are risks exaggerated? Want safe solution that works.
It's genetic, I think bc my dad has the same bands. I also have large submandibular glands and as I age they have begun to show more. I am thinking about a neck lift and platysmaplasty. Is there anything that can be done with large submandibular glands? Can they be minimized with a neck lift/platysmaplasty?
I had a platysmaplasty approx 2 years ago. Shortly after the surgery, my submandibular glands are very noticeable and take much away from the results of the procedure. Now I am having a face and neck lift and want to have my glands removed in hopes of achieving the best result possible. My PS agrees that the glands are slightly swollen and will remove them for optimal results, but I'm not sure if I should, not just due to the surgical risks, but long term as well.
