Hello, I have been having problems with my nose (congestion and sinus infections etc) for about four years now and had a septoplasty and diathermy of my inferior turbinates 10 days ago. I was wondering though is it normal to have no taste or smell in one nostril? If I cover my left nostril I can't taste or smell but I can when I cover my right nostril. This has been like this since well before my surgery but should the surgery have helped this? Many thanks

Deflections of the caudal end of the nasal septum are often hard to address with primary septoplasty. The caudal part of the septum is the most anterior part of the septum. It is the part you can touch immediately in the front of the nose. The caudal septum is very important because it helps...
If I was you, I'd find a local ENT who can see you. A quick google search would find you one. I'm not exactly sure what this could be, but it's probably nothing super serious. If you're worried, you will best put your mind at ease by seeing a local ENT or facial plastic surgeon. Good luck!
It would be unusual to do an open septoplasty. An incision is made on the septum itself or though a transfixion incision, separating columella, and attached membranous septum, from the caudal cartilaginous septum.
