Of course there is variation from one individual to the next, but the gold standard answer is 6 months until a "final result" can be judged. Nonetheless, most patients will appreciate a very near final result in about half that time. Glad to help.
While the scars may be strong enough for sex at approximately six weeks, the appearance of the scars and the reduction of all swelling continue to evolve for several months afterward. This is a normal process.
Hello and thank you for your question!I tell every patient that you will see signficant healing at 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months with less obvious healing out to 6-9 months. It takes every body part almost a full year to mature, remodel and heal.Hope that helps! In good health,Ellen Mahony, MD
It generally takes 3 months for the majority of the swelling to go down but can take up to 12 months. It is safe to judge your results around 3 months but keep in mind that there may be some continued improvement in the appearance for up to one year. Hope that helps!
Hi,I tell my patients that the final appearance of the labia after labiaplasty is around 4 months- even after that there can be continued improvement in the scar appearance and feel.Regards,Daniel A. Medalie
Labiaplasty leads to a lot of swelling and bruising that takes some time to settle. Initially it can look pretty bad but don't be scared, once all the swelling settles down things look pretty normal. After three months, the scars tend to be so well healed you can barely tell anything was done.
I ask my patients to wait at least 3 months before judging their results. Typically within one month much of the swelling has gone down along with most of the pain. The swelling will continue to decrease for up to 6 months. its very important to do your research and choose a plastic surgeon that is an expert in this procedure and is well known in the medical community.
As you've discovered, healing after Labiaplasty is a PROCESS... First week awful swelling, discoloration. 2nd-4th week still irregular, hard, slowly getting recognizable. 1 month mostly fully together, able to do all activities, but still not "smooth," somewhat bumpy, a little irregular, perhaps a tiny bit of swelling. As others have mentioned, although you may return to absolutely full activities most times by 6 weeks post-op, it will be 4-6 months before "..what you see is what you get- long term..."Hope this helps. YOyu might click on the link below to see the variations in results; most of these photos were taken @ 4-6 weeks post-op; a few after 3-4 months.Best!Michael P Goodman MD
Just like other areas that are operated upon, there may be intermittent swelling for several months, but the majority will go down within about 6-8 weeks.
Most swelling is gone by two months, but there could be some residual swelling up to 4 or 5 months after surgery depending on how much is done. Best wishes.Below is a fully-healed labiaplasty patient.
