I ve been put on Daily Rovustatin 5mg and Aspirin 75mg as told I have high cholesterol. I’m 57 of very slim build, very fit and active. In fact I haven’t had salt, sugar for over 30 yrs. However I do have large bust which I hate. I’m in a position now where I can afford to pay for cosmetic procedures but I read that a breast reduction is not possible if on statins or aspirin! I’m gutted surely many women with high cholesterol still have these procedures?
Answer: Does administration of aspirin or rosuvastatin contraindicate cosmetic surgery? Hi and welcome to our forum! As aspirin has anticoagulant properties, it is usually recommended to suspend the medication for several weeks prior to surgery (if cleared to do so by your primary care physician) to lessen the risk of intraoperative or postoperative bleeding. Rosuvastatin is a cholesterol lowering drug which does not interfere with performance of breast reduction surgery.Best wishes with your upcoming procedure..

CONTACT NOW Answer: Breast reduction and Statins OK Hi Kartam,I regularly operate on breasts of patients who are on statins. There is absolutely no problem to have a breast reduction if you are having them impact on your lifestyle. In my practice, I treat my patients holistically and we examine all aspects of a patient's lifestyle. Once your breasts have been reduced it would be interesting to understand why your cholesterol is high if you are fit and active and don't eat salt and sugar. Perhaps there is something else in your food that you re eating that is contributing to your high cholesterol. Lifestyle Medicine is the way forward and having a breast reduction often acts as a catalyst to make changes. I hope this information is helpful.

Answer: Breast Reduction and lift with medications Dear Kartam Many thanks for your question. There are certain medications that might increase the risk during a surgery. Anti cholesterol medications do not usually need to be stopped before a breast reduction surgery. If you take aspiring for cardiac protection, it can also safely stopped a week before surgery to minimise the risk of bleeding. So the answer to your question is that you can safely have a breast reduction despite being on Aspirin and Rovustatin.I hope you find this explanation helpful.

Answer: Medications and Surgery Thank you for your question. With the medications you take, it would be best to meet with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns. You will likely meet with both your PCP for medical clearance as well as your anesthesiologist who will give you information regarding the procedure and how those medications will effect it. Likely, they will have you stop these medications within a certain time frame pre-operatively in order to reduce the risk of bleeding and complications.

Answer: Is it OK for me to have a breast reduction and lift with medication I have to take? Hi, Thank you for the question. It is typically safe to perform breast reduction surgery when patient is on those medications, but I would discuss it first with your primary medical doctor. Sometimes Aspirin can be held prior to surgery to minimize the risk of bleeding. I suggest that you seek an in person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon specializing in Breast Reduction surgeries to further discuss your options, specific techniques, concerns and expectations. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. I hope this helps.Best regards, Dr. Karanetz Dr. Irena KaranetzBreast Fellowship-TrainedBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Breast Reduction on Meds Breast reduction can safely be performed in women who take these medications for high cholesterol. Most surgeons will recommend that you stop taking the aspirin temporarily for 7 days prior to breast reduction because the aspirin affects platelet function (which can cause increased bleeding) during surgery.
