Hello, I'm 1 year post op and I have a dime sized hard spot on my breast lift/implant incision line. Tonight it started feeling sore and burning a bit. What could this be? I don't want to go back to my horrible surgeon, who should I have look at this (regular doctor wise)?
Answer: Lump under incision Dear lala6868,it would be the best to check it with your plastic surgeon. If the lump is under your incision, then it is likely that it is an undissolved stitch which should be removed. Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Answer: Lump in breast after breast augmentation/lift Thanks for the question. You absolutely need a physical exam by an experienced surgeon. Best to see a plastic surgeon first, so you can articulate anything you are concerned about including the cosmetic result as well as the lump. If it's right in the line of the incision, it is most likely to be a benign issue like a cyst, fat necrosis, or suture granuloma. However, all masses in the breast should be examined by an experienced physician and evaluated, including possible biopsy/excision and maybe imaging. I personally had a patient with a lump that developed a year out from her breast aug/lift in the line of one of her incisions, after a normal preop exam and preop mammogram, and we had it biopsied by a breast general surgeon and it turned out to be malignant. While unexpected in that case and probably highly unlikely in yours, the safest answer is to get examined as soon as possible for workup and reassurance.

Answer: Lump after breast lift along incision line I appreciate you asking this question. Full evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon is indicated, who will be the best physician to address this. This lump may be scar tissue around a suture, a small cyst, or other mass. Since your scar in the vertical lower pole of the breast is widened also in this area, it may be prudent to advise a complete revision of the lower pole scar with removal of the mass and the opportunity to make this look and feel much better. Cheers, Brad Remington, MD

Answer: Breast lift lump Hello and thank you for your excellent question. It is impossible to tell what the lump you are feeling is, without a physical exam. If you do not want to see your original surgeon, you could see a primary care physician, but they are unlikely to be able to evaluate the area as well as a surgeon. Good luck!
