Can patients with post herpetic neuralgia still have breast reduction?

Once things have settled down and while you may still have some minor symptoms, you can go ahead with a breast reduction procedure, especially if you have significant back and shoulder pain because of large, ptotic breasts. I would advise avoiding surgery until your symptoms resolve or at least stabilise. It is possible that the surgery itself or the bodily stress from the surgery and anaesthetic can cause a relapse. I would recommend getting advice from your family physician and consider taking anti-viral tablets in the build up to your surgery and for the immediate recovery phase to reduce the risk of a relapse. 

It is still possible given that you have already recovered fully from the disease, however, with the case of nerve irritation, it is possible to develop a complication with sensation after a breast reduction as this surgery will severe your nerves even more. It would be best to schedule an appointment with a board-certified plastic surgeon for an in-person examination and a detailed discussion of the possibilities of a surgery.
