I have had my braces on for a year and a half. I am supposed to be getting them off next week. The main reason I got my braces was to fix my gap in between my two front teeth and to fix my gap. Last month I went in and they said that there was nothing they could do for my gap anymore because it still had a little over bite. I said I don’t mind as long as my gap got fixed. I have had thos gap reopen 3 times even with a power chain on. Any ideas on the causes. Can a retainer fix the gap?

I would recommend starting with orthodontic treatment first and once the teeth/bite are at the correct position, have the gum contouring, you would not want to move teeth once your gums have been contouring.
Your spacers may be falling out as the teeth are moving apart so you may be fine without the spacers for a few days. Call your orthodontist to find out what he/she wants you to do.
You definitely need to see a board-certified orthodontist to ensure that your treatment is done correctly, once and for all. You can be treated without removing teeth, but full treatment (both arches) is needed to correct the bite. Whether you choose to be treated with braces or Invisalign...
