Hi, I had double eyelids surgery 2 weeks ago. The swelling definitely went down since post op day 1 till today, 2 weeks mark. However my eyelids are still swollen and the crease are still very high and unnatural looking. My eyelids feels puffy and soft when i gently massage it. Will this be permanent? I'm panicking and depressed. I never stepped out of my house without shades. Are everything fine with my eyes?
Answer: Temporary swelling two weeks after Asian eyelid surgery is a normal part of the healing process. I don’t think you have any reason at all to panic. Swelling being present at this time is typical. I do a lot of Asian eyelid surgeries and I can certainly share with you over 20 years of doing this surgery that there is certainly some degree of variability between patients regarding the amount of swelling they have. Asian eyelid surgery requires a particular type of method that involves the fixation of the eyelid crease to the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. In order to create that crease, there has to be a connection made between the skin and the levator muscle. This can be performed both in an incisional or a non-incisional procedure. After surgery, there is crowding in the tight space. Fluid has the tendency to back up between the eyelid crease and the eyelid margin. That swelling can take time to resolve. In fact, that swelling is very often the reason for many patients to panic because they feel that the eyelid crease is too high. This type of swelling in two weeks is normal and that swelling can linger and be variable in the course of several months and can go on to as long as one year. True surgical healing can take up to a year to resolve. The swelling you are experiencing is likely to be normal and the only things that I advise my patients is manage any allergies particularly eye allergies. In addition, managing any sinus issues, getting adequate sleep and doing things that are healthy. I recommend that you contact your doctor's office and speak with them. Judging by the photo you submitted, it doesn’t appear that there’s anything unusual about your situation. Understand that the body takes its time to heal and swelling does eventually gets better, but how long it takes varies between individuals. I hope that was helpful, I wish you the best of luck, and thank you for your question. This personalized video answer to your question is posted on RealSelf and on YouTube. Answer: Recovery and swelling after Asian eyelid surgery/blepharoplasty Based on your photos there is still quite a bit of swelling, and once that resolves you will have a nice result. Give your upper eyelids time to heal, and follow up closely with your surgeon for best results.

Answer: It takes time to see the final results of double eyelid surgery With double eyelid surgery, it's important to be patient to see the final results. Each patient heals at a different pace, so for some it takes longer for the swelling to subside than for others. The scars will heal in the coming weeks and months, so the whole process is more like a marathon than a sprint to the finish line. If you still have concerns in the future, consult the surgeon who performed the surgery.
