How soon after a transconjunctival blepharoplasty can I work out?

The reason one needs to take it easy after surgery is to avoid raising one's blood pressure and starting up some bleeding. This is especially a risk during the immediate postop period. It depends on what surgery is done and how likely bleeding is after the surgery.Once the swelling has resolved and the bruising is resolving I would expect that you could return to your exercise program. This should be by a week or so.Of course you should the recommendations of your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for the question.Trans-conjunctival blepheroplasty is my preference for this exact reason of allowing my patient early return to normal activity and exercise.  Of course the patient has to be a good candidate for the procedure in the first place.Nevertheless my patients can start walking the next day but no bending or lifting or running for two weeks.  Once most of the swelling is resolved, at two weeks, patients are released to do more strenuous exercise.  Each case must be treated individually but the above are general guidelines.Best regardsNagi T Ayoub MD, FACS

In general, I recommend one week before resuming light exercise (walking outdoors, treadmill, etc.). Anything more intense where you are straining (valsalva maneuver), I recommend waiting at least two weeks following this type of procedure. Hope this helps!
