Does otoplasty always work?

Because the cartilages of the ears have inherent spring to them, the spring is often able to overcome the sutures that are used to hold them in place. Some cartilages are much stronger than others. Some cartilages need to be incised or scored to "break the spring". I know it's frustrating, but give your ears a little more time to heal. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.John Standefer MD

Revisions are sometimes required usually only if the ear is traumatized and the permanent sutures are pulled through the cartilage. It should be possible to keep the upper pole of your ear pinned closer to your head. In some cases a small refinement is required but I have not encountered an ear that couldn't be pinned back. No way of telling whether this time it will work for you.  Since thickness and spring of ear cartilage varies from person to person there is sometimes unpredictability to outcome.
