If I get approved for breast reduction from my insurance and I want to get tummy tuck, neck & back lipo(I will be paying for these). If my insurance is covering the hospital & anesthesia fee for my breast reduction. Since this is a combined procedures, how does this work? Will there be extra fees? Are the hospital & anesthesia fees separate? Also if it's combined will there be a discount? Thanks in advance.
Answer: Speak with the hospital You will need to speak with the "finance" department at the hospital regarding the anesthesia costs and your insurance company re: their policy on combining surgeries. Generally, if you are also having cosmetic work, you will be responsible for the anesthesia, hospital and surgeon's fees. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Answer: Are the hospital & anesthesia fees separate if breast reduction covered by insurance & I'll be paying for tummy tuck & lipo? Congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. You will receive the most accurate information from the "finance" staff at your hospital. Most likely you will find that any facility and anesthesia time not directly related to the breast reduction surgery will be considered "fee for service".You should also be concerned about the safety of combination surgery; risks/possible complications do increase with increased length of surgery… It is best to evaluate each patient's suitability for combination surgery on an individualized basis. During this consultation process, after a complete history and physical, the SAFETY of combining these surgical procedures becomes of paramount importance. Plastic surgeon, anesthesia provider, duration of surgery, surgery facility all important considerations. Your best bet: choose your plastic surgeon very carefully; everything else including good judgment/advice/planning, anesthesia provider and safe surgery facility will follow. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with.

Answer: Are the hospital & anesthesia fees separate if breast reduction covered by insurance & I'll be paying for tummy tuck & lipo? Thank you for your question. Pre-certification is required prior to surgery for reimbursement or coverage. Insurance policies vary greatly and a pre-certification is not a guarantee of payment. I recommend that you carefully review your policy to determine your coverage prior to undergoing surgery.

Answer: Combining procedures These are all questions you'll have to ask your plastic surgeon, since the answers may vary. In general if you combine cosmetic with insurance procedures, the patient will be responsible for a hospital and anaesthesia fee as well as a surgeon's fee. Costs and discounts vary across the country. However, you will be saving in time off work and recovery time by doing them at the same time instead of separately.
