I am two weeks post op of a breast augmentation and I received my incision under the breast in the breast fold. I was feeling my incision today and it is starting to feel extremely hard and I can feel as if there is a lump/it is hard under the skin all along the incision and about 2 millimeters surrounding it.
Answer: Two weeks post op and my scar is becoming very hard. Hello! Thank you for the question! It is common for scars to fully mature for up to a year. your description sounds typical for noprmal healing and scarring at this time postop. Of course, if any changes or concerns, it would be advised to see your surgeon. In the meantime, there are a few things that may help to ameliorate your incision/scar. The most proven (as well as cheapest) modality is simple scar massage. Applying pressure and massaging the well-healed scar has been shown to improve the appearance as it breaks up the scar tissue, hopefully producing the finest scar as possible. Other things that have been shown to add some benefit, albeit controversial, are silicone sheets, hydration, and topical steroids. These can usually be started at approximately 3-4 weeks postop and when incisions healed. In addition, avoidance of direct sunlight to the incision will significantly help the appearance as they tend to discolor with UV light during the healing process. Scars will never disappear, but attempt is made to make the finest scar in a concealed location. Incisions may be revised to lower or conceal better if enough laxity exists. If unsightly scars are still present after approximately a year's time, other things that your surgeon may consider are intralesional steroid injections, laser, or just surgical revision of the scar itself. Hope that this helps! Best wishes!

Answer: Wound healing after breast augmentation It seems like you are describing the natural process of healing. These scars are often heaped up in a ridge to get the best approximation of the skin for a tight closure. Collagen is being laid down to strengthen the healing wound with scar tissue. This may continue to get firmer and then will eventually soften as the scar remodels.

Answer: Thick hard incision following breast augmentation It seems that you may be describing what is commonly referred to as the "healing ridge". This is the normal reaction that your body is having in response to a surgical incision regardless of whether there are internal sutures placed. An indurated ridge along the length of the incision will be palpable initially and then subside and become totally soft in a matter of several weeks. The ridge is very commonly seen in certain operations such as inguinal hernia surgery and less so in breast augmentation but the presence or lack of a ridge is not a cause for alarm when the wound appears to be healing normally. Best to ask your plastic surgeon if the finding is normal and if its time for scar massage

Answer: Breast Augmentation and early healing Thanks for your questionIt is normal for there to be some firm spots at your incision site at 2 weeks after breast implant surgery. The firmness you feel is likely a combination of some of the suture which will dissolve and the skin and tissue which is healing. Over the next few weeks this will continue to soften and smooth out. Follow up with your plastic surgeon to make sure you are healing as expected and discuss methods to massage your scar and make it look as nice as possible.Best Wishes
