Radiesse injections in cheeks

Jordana S. Gilman, MD answers: Will Radiesse injected in my cheeks help hollowness under my eyes?

I am 36 and am considering Radiesse to give fullness to my cheeks a lift and help alleviate the hollowness under my eyes. I am scared to do injections under my eyes, so I am wondering if Radiesse in my cheeks will also help my eyes?

As  many people get older the cheek under the eyes looks more flat or even hollow.  This can emphasize the hollowness of the lower eyelid and undereye area.  Injecting Radiesse into the cheek to give more fullness to the "apple" of the cheek will also lift the undereye skin slightly.  It is very important to not inject Radiesse into the thin skin under the eye, as this would result in visible, and easily felt, lumps and bumps.  If you want to fill the undereye hollows or "tear troughs" and not the cheek, you should have Restylane or Juvederm injected, not Radiesse.  And depending on your face and your unique anatomy, you could need a combination of both fillers to fully address the cheek and under eye area to your satisfaction.

There are some rare risks with fillers near the eyelids including lumps. The filler needs to be placed deeply, under the muscle for this reason, but there are risks associated with this placement. Filling the cheeks will not help the lower eyelids. The tear trough which is the crease below the eyelid and above the cheek is often treated sufficiently with this technique.
