I am 45 years old and was recently diagnosed with IDC, left breast, stage 1, with "good" tumor markers for nipple-sparing, bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. (I'm choosing this over lumpectomy for several reason; strong family history being one). My body size doesn't allow for flap reconstruction. I am a small C cup. Eradicating the cancer is my primary objective and job one! But I also want to look as close to myself as possible when all is complete!I have great Kaiser insurance, but am "interviewing" several general and plastic surgeons, two out of network. I really like both the Kaiser docs, but they only do reconstruction with the incision horizontally from the outside the areola, and will only place the implant following the tissue expander, sub-pectoral. Next week I am meeting with a plastics in San Francisco. She offers immediate reconstruction with the implant over the pectoral muscle.Have any of you had, or considered the latter option: Single-stage implant reconstruction?I greatly appreciate you all sharing your collective wisdom and experiences!!
