How long does it take to heal from a bilateral endoscopic brow ptosis lift and bilateral blepharoplasty? My job is not particularly stressful in terms of heavy lifting. However, I do spend time on the computer at work which can be stressful to my eyes. I am concerned that the STD rules might require me to go back to work before my eyes feel they are ready for it.
As you can imagine there is some variation in the degree of bruising, swelling, and discomfort that different patients will have after similar procedures.
Most patients will find that most of the bruising and swelling has passed by about 10 days. I generally recommend a minimum of 1 week off work for those who have jobs that are not physically demanding. Occasionally, patients choose 2 weeks off in this setting.
Good luck with your surgery!

I have just been diagnosed with Graves Disease. My eyes are gritty, itchy and swollen/bulging. I can also see a yellowish build up at the outside corner of my eyes... can I get surgery so I can get back my natural looking eyes as I am so unhappy with my 'staring' look.
Graves' disease can make the eyes bulge (proptosis), and it can also make the eyes open too widely (eyelid retraction). In some cases Graves' disease can disturb the muscles which move the eyes (restrictive strabismus) and cause double vision. In a small percentage of cases the sight can be damaged by compression of the optic nerve.
The good news is that specialists who frequently treat patients with thyroid eye disease can really do a lot to help. The surgeries for this condition have come a long way in the last 15 years.
An oculoplastic surgeon who is a member of the ASOPRS should be well qualified to evaluate and help you through this tough condition. The attached ITEDS web site (thyroideyedisease.org) has useful information. Aso check out NGDF.org

My eyelids will be lifted out of my field of vision. Is that a pretty painful correction? Will the pain be similar to the pain of an irritated boil?
Although there are many different types of upper eyelid surgery, and patients vary significantly in their own perception of pain, generally recovery from upper eyelid sugery is not very painful. I typically prescribe Tylenol with codeine for patients undergoing eyelid surgery, but many patients will use few or none of the capsules-- especially after the first day or two. Cold compresses for the first two days after eyelid surgery are very helpful, too.
Good luck!
