For VERY Minor Changes, is It Worth It to Go Abroad for Rhinoplasty? (Costa Rica) I want to get rid of a slight bump on my nose and looking at the average prices available locally (around $6000) compared to Costa Rica, Bolivia, India etc. could save me a couple thousand as well as getting in some vacationing, not to mention that they are performed by the BEST doctors there who have a lot of experience because of a higher volume of patients which to me seems a good thing.

A: Rhinoplasty for a minimal hump, price, location

If the small hump bothers you, consider the rhinoplasty surgery. Reducing a minimal hump is very simple, and your recovery would be brief. This procedure can often be done under local anesthesia.

I have seen some terrible results from rhinoplasties, so choose your plastic surgeon carefully. Repairing a rhinoplasty gone bad is often very difficult and challenging. $6000 sounds reasonable. Whether or not you can vacation at the same time would be my least important consideration. Surgery is serious, and the result will be a lifetime investment in your appearance. If you go to Costa Rica and have a complication, who will you see for correction and/or treatment?

Does my Nose Still Have Some Time to Get Longer After Rhinoplasty? I feel my nose looks too short after the rhinoplasty but I'm only 2 1/2 months post-op. Will my nose grow a little more during the following 10 months? thanks

A: Why Can't I Have Neck or Facelift as a Smoker?

Noses do tend to lengthen or drop after a rhinoplasty. At 2 1/2 months you would still have significant swelling and when that subsides you will see this desired change. Also noses drop with age from cartilage that continues to grow and gravity. I have no idea if it will lengthen enough to satisfy you, however. Time will tell. I have seen changes between the 6th month and 1 year photos in rhinoplasty patients.

What is a Non Surgical Nose Job I am unhappy with my nose, but I can't afford rhinoplasty surgery. I am considering a non-surgical option but don't know much about it other than that it is supposed to be less expensive than plastic surgery. What exactly is a non-surgical nose job? Do the results last?

A: When is a no-surgical nose job beneficial?

Non-surgical nose jobs are useful in very select patients. The non-surgical nose job involves injecting a product like Restylane, Juvederm or Artefill into an area of the nose that needs augmenting. Examples are: just above a hump, which may be depressed or deficient. Elevating this will make the hump apear smaller. Another area is when the nasal tip does not project enough. The products can be put in the tip and/or at the base of the columella where it attaches to the upper lip. This will increase the projection. Finally, if there is a depression on one side of the nose or irregularities, an inectable product can be of benefit. It all other cases, a surgical rhinoplasty would be the proper procedure of choice. Most injectable products will last for a year ot two, and a rhinoplasty is forever.
