How Much More Do You Usually Pay for a Twilight Sedation Instead of Local Anastasia During Smartlipo?

Hi , im scheduled to get liposuction done on my knees calves and ankles in a week. my surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon and the procedure is preformed in his office under an oral sedation +local anastasia. i have read a lot of reviews and a lot of people seem to feel uncomfortable i dont want to feel a lot of pain and i want the surgeon to be able to give me the best results. what is the best way to go? what is the price difference? can a twilight sedation be done in the office?

A: If you have to have sedation for SmartLipo, you aren't getting the best part.

SmartLipo is best used with tumescent liposuction.  If you have to have sedation with tumescent liposuction, then you are getting traditional liposuction and your recovery is going to be longer, you will have more bruising and the results won't be as spectacular as you should get.

I can tell you that of the thousands of cases I have performed of tumescent liposuction, pain was never an issue due to good technique and doing it the right way.  This means that either your surgeon is telling you they know how to do tumescent, but they don't or they don't have a staff that is attentive to detail.

You may want to consider going to have a second opinion where the expectations are better as to pain control.  Good luck.

I Want to Get Smartlipo Triplex but Prefer General Anesthetic Instead of Local, Can I?

I have high blood pressure when I get nervous so im going to get really nervous with local anesthetic, can I tell the dr. to perform the smartlipo triplex on my tummy and double chin with general anesthetic instead, so I can be fully asleep and not feel any stabbing pains? Because I heard you even feel pain when theyre injecting you the local on all areas.

A: General anesthesia increases the risks of this surgery and decreases best results

The beauty of tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo when performed in conjunction with tumescent liposuction is that it offers the ability to decrease the risks of liposuction dramatically.  That means doing it under local anesthetic rather than general anesthesia.

The main risk of doing any of these procedures is the anesthetic, nothing else.  General anesthesia, while usually safe, does have risks that you won't wake up.  Additionally, it makes the areas lie in a flaccid manner, thereby not giving the surgeon a 'correct' anatomic view of how they look in real life.

There are many reasons that tumescent liposuction using local anesthesia has the amazing track record that it does.  The biggest is that it avoids the problems associated with general anesthesia.  If your surgeon has good staff and knows what they are doing, you won't feel anything at the time of the surgery and your recovery will be much better than if you go with general.  Good luck.

Smart Lipo Vs. Tummy Tuck, Which am I a Candidate for? (photo)

So my orginal thought was to get a tummy tuck after i lost about 50lbs. Now i'm no where near a doctor so i sent him pictures and he recommended smart lipo. My main concern isn't so much the fat even though i'm having a hard time with this last little bit on my lower abs. My main concern is the skin.. What do you guys think? After smart lipo will my skin tighten up enough to have a flat stomach?

A: Male tummy tuck

Liposuction is the suction removal of fat, period.  Any skin retraction, redraping, is totally unpredictable, you may have great skin retraction, none or your skin may become looser and more wrinkled.  There are many types of liposuction: tumescent, ultrasonic, laser, power, smart, maybe even dumb lipo!  There is not one study that proves one method provides any more skin retraction than another.

Based on your history of a 50 lb weight loss and the loose skin in your photographs, I would recommend a mini tummy tuck.  This would consist of skin removal and fat removal with a well placed lower abdominal scar that will be hidden in all your clothing.  You will need to decide if you want to trade the scar for the loose skin, if you feel that the scar is a FAIR trade, then you will be happy with a tummy tuck.

Good Luck!
