Is It Necessary for the Surgeon to Put in Drains when Completing a Full Facelift?

I've had several consultations. One doctor puts in drains, one doesn't, and one uses glue.

A: Every facelift case is individually treated

As long as you have seen reputable and board certified surgeons then the question can be answered as simply as "it depends". If you are having extensive work down around the brows and neck and the amount of skin needed to be elevated is great then most surgeons advocate some type of drain for 24 hours. If a mini-lift is performed and work on the uper third of the face is not done then a tissue sealent can be used.  All these precautions are aimed at getting the face back to its normal contour as soon as possible without any fluid collections underneath the skin.  The more important detail is if you feel comfortable with a particular surgeon and his skill.

Facelift Surgery Scars

Will I have visible scars from a face lift?

A: Scars from Facelifts are permanent, but usually well-hidden

I would agree with most of the posters here. Facelifts do create permanent scars which are often visible. The important thing is that the surgeon places these scars in areas which are well-hidden, and so even if they do become a bit thick (which can be unpredictable in a very small percentage of cases) they are still well-hidden and usually not visible. It's extremely rare for most facelift patients to complain about a visible scar. I had one male patient who said his scars were visible, but the only one who noticed was his personal assistant who was female and knew what to look for! Beware procedures advertised as lunchtime or one hour facelifts, because usually those scars are not as well-hidden.
