Post-Pregnancy Procedures
The body contouring procedures I perform at my Grand Rapids practice include a lot of lower body lifts. A lower body lift procedure flattens the abdomen, as well as lifts the outer thighs and buttocks., so it's also a popular procedure with my patients who've lost a lot of weight. Most of these patients also opt for breast surgery, for a complete mommy makeover. A lower body lift is major surgery, but it's about the same magnitude and recovery time as a tummy tuck. Women with excess abdominal skin can be great tummy tuck candidates, but when a tummy tuck is performed on someone who also has loose skin on the thighs and butt, the flat tummy doesn't look harmonious with the rest of the body. Depending on the patients goals, I may also perform liposuction to remove stubborn fat.
Breast Surgery
Breast enhancement and revision surgeries represent a large portion of my practice. This includes breast augmentations to enlarge and reshape the breast; a breast lift to improve the position, shape and appearance of droopy breasts (with or without implants); or a breast reduction. My goal is to strive for an attractive, natural-looking result, unless the patient has a different goal. During the consultation, we have our patients do sizers and we talk about what different implants offer in profiles, shapes, and fullness. I take a lot of time ordering a variety of implants for my augmentation patients to make sure we pick out the perfect and prettiest ones. Abdominoplasty
A tummy tuck (aka abdominoplasty) tightens loose skin and removes excess fat in the abdominal area, while addressing weakened abdominal muscles. I like to pull the muscles tightly together to give women a curve at the waistline while keeping my incision low. Often, I use liposuction for shaping at the Hips and Flanks. This enhances the "finishing touches" of the silhouette and overall appearance. I also liposuction the pre-pubic area, as that area will get a big "pick up" and no fatty pad over it. My goal of this surgery is to have an attractive new contour that appears natural and feminine. We look forward to welcoming you to our practice located in the heart of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Dr. Marguerite Aitken joined the Plastic Surgery Associates staff in 2004. She brings her talents from the art world, having trained at the University of Michigan and worked as a medical illustrator in Chicago for 10 years prior to medical school. She completed medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago and residency in the Grand Rapids/Michigan State University Plastic Surgery program under the guidance of her Plastic Surgery Associates (PSA) colleagues. Following graduation, Dr. Aitken spent six months in highly coveted positions, training in the most current and up-to-date procedures. Her travels took her to Atlanta, Georgia for additional experience in facial cosmetic surgery, to Belgium for complex reconstructive micro surgical techniques and to Charlotte, North Carolina, for body contouring.
The focus of her practice is cosmetic breast surgery, body contouring and facial cosmetic surgery. She has been the recipient of awards for her clinical research in the field of body contouring and has spoken internationally on the topics of breast reconstruction and facial aesthetic surgery. Her talents and her passion for this field have enabled her to both author and illustrate multiple textbooks and journals. Dr. Aitken is an eager teacher and also works closely with the medical students and residents in training as a Clinical Instructor for Michigan State University.
