Rich Barton
Richard Barton is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Zillow.com. Before creating Zillow, Rich founded the online travel site Expedia. Expedia was started within Microsoft in 1994, and then spun out of Microsoft in 1999; Rich served as the President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director until March 2003. By that time, Expedia had grown to become the largest online seller of travel in the world. Rich also worked from 1991 to 1994 in various product management roles for Microsoft. He is currently a venture partner at Benchmark Capital and on the board of directors of Netflix and most recently, Avvo, Inc., an online company focused on the legal industry. Rich holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
Mariam Naficy
Mariam Naficy is the Founder and CEO of Minted, an online retailer of crowd-sourced designs for holiday cards, wedding invitations, and other personalized stationery. All of Minted’s designs are submitted to Minted through design competitions in which its user community votes to decide what Minted should sell. Mariam is an Internet entrepreneur who has launched and managed several successful online retail businesses serving female consumers. She founded Eve.com, the first online prestige cosmetic retailer, in 1998, signing over 250 prestige independent cosmetics brands as Nars, Hard Candy, and Vincent Longo, and sold the business successfully in 2000. Mariam founded and managed the profitable online retail division of The Body Shop, the international beauty-goods retailer. In addition to her involvement with RealSelf, Mariam sits on the Board of Directors of Polyvore.com, a fashion social media site.
Mike Slade
Mike Slade is a partner at Second Avenue Partners, a Seattle-based provider of management, strategy, and capital for early stage companies. Mike began his career at Microsoft in 1983 and spent seven years there in a variety of product marketing roles. He served as director of corporate marketing in Microsoft’s systems software division before leaving in late 1990. He spent 1991-92 as vice president of marketing for NeXT Computer, and he also served on the corporate boards of Metricom (1994-96) and the CKS Group (1996-98). In 1998, Mike retired as chairman and chief executive officer of Starwave upon its sale to The Walt Disney Company. From 1998 until 2004, Slade served as a consultant for Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs. Slade earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Colorado College and his master’s degree in business administration from Stanford. He currently serves on a number of corporate boards as well as the boards of trustees for Colorado College and the Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre.
