Woman: Will there results of eyelid surgery be permanent?

Dr. Prasad: The use of the term permanent should be rephrased to long-term. Since the face and body continues to change throughout your life, most facial cosmetic procedures related to facial aging can be estimated to last for 5 to 10 years. This doesn't mean that things just regress to where you started but rather normal facial aging changes will continue.

The long-term benefits of eyelid surgery also depends upon the age at which you have the procedure. For example, the benefits of a lower eyelid blepharoplasty will appear to last longer in a 30-year-old who has the procedure when compared to a 60-year-old who has the same procedure since facial aging changes become more significant in the later decades of life.

In my practice, I explain how to maximize the long-term benefits of surgery through a healthy lifestyle, avoiding habits such as smoking, proper sun protection and some maintenance procedures such as PRP or platelet-rich plasma treatments.
