When you consider things that a rhinoplasty can't fix, obviously a rhinoplasty will change the shape of the outside of a nose and there are many things that we can change with a rhinoplasty. However, there remain some things that can't be changed with a simple rhinoplasty. One of the reasons I like to use imaging is that it can help us notice these things preoperatively and again, anticipate a realistic result. So for instance, when someone's nose isn't perfectly straight, sometimes that's because the underlying structure of the face is not symmetric. So one cheek may be more depressed than the other cheek which makes the base of the nose essentially sit tilted. So recognizing that preoperatively is important because I may be able to tell you, your nose is never going to be perfectly straight because of this asymmetry. There are procedures, of course, that you can perform to correct those asymmetries, but a rhinoplasty alone may not do it. Another thing that comes up often with rhinoplasty and improving overall look is on the profile image during consultation, the chin has a close relationship with the nose in improving the profile. So, often we, in conjunction with rhinoplasty, will discuss the chin and discuss whether or not a chin implant might help to improve the overall look.

There are some things that are simply outside the realm of possibilities for a rhinoplasty. Dr. Dara Liotta explains what they are.
