Hi, this is Dr. Ricardo Rodriguez. Today we're going to talk about lip lift. There are many ways of doing the lip lift, and many people have tried and failed and really the secret to the successful lip lift is very simple. Keep things simple.
I tend to take out only skin, I don't deal with the muscle. Secondly, I use strong points of fixation. It's a fallacy to think that when you just suture skin to skin they're going to stay in the same place. The lip is a very mobile structure; therefore, you want to anchor it to something solid, and that is really the keystone of my procedure.
Secondly, don't overdo it. I mean, if you are pulling too much, don't do it. Just for me when I start seeing lines of tension developing on the lip, that's my limit. That's where I stop. If I've got to do it again, I'll do it again. It's much better than making it too short, and then telling the patient, "I don't know how I can fix that." On the other hand, if I don't take out enough, it's very easy to come back and take a little bit extra.
Anyways, just look at the pictures and decide for yourself, but the key to a successful lip lift is not to be too ambitious and to keep it simple. Thank you.
